Default Cotton air filter

Hi all , just a quick one as i have been thinking about it but don't want to spend the money if it will not inprove things...also i have just replaced mine with a new paper one and would like to see if anyone has used one of these type of air filter such as K&N and if it showed any inprovement over the standard paper ones.

I have no first hand knowledge, but my local Audi indepenent doesn't rate them at all

Current mods: solar sun roof, 20mm rear spacers, 15 mm on front, red brembo callipers, 6k headlights, rear view camera, engine remap, alloy dash dial rings, alloy navi rings, tt/phaeton pedal upgrade, (and custom matching foot rest) dension ipod interface & parrot hands free kit (both fully hidden), av input, tv in motion switched thro' PF switch in blanking plug right of steering column, Audi 'quattro' sill covers, repositioned centre console switches, radio clock, .
Planned mods: auto-dimming rear view mirror, dash cam (as steamship's), fit the ski hatch, refit philips drl's (or maybe not - nope, definitely not - horrible botch!).

Anything treated with oil is not recommended as a little too much and it starts to mess up your mass air flow sensor (coats it in gunk)

Very good point .....there about £30-45 I did have a foam one from ifg i think they where called in my old Vauxhall Omega for a good few year...that was a dry one..

In best case it will give you couple of horsepower more, they need are more coarse then paper filters to make less resistance for air and catch dust by sticking to the oil. They need regular cleaning and applying of fresh oil. Oil can get on MAF and alter airflow reading.

Also there was a test (dont know how impartial / accurate) somewhere on the web which concluded that K&N and similar oiled filters let through more dirt than the stock paper filter. Maybe its not enough to matter, but I would rather have less dirt if that test is true.
