Default Car booked in for TLC

The car is booked in tomorrow to have the front brakes inspected, as it currently screeches in a hideous fashion when pulling up to stop at traffic lights. Not commensurate with a vehicle of this size me feels. The faces of the discs look like mirrors but they certainly squeal like piggies and it's driving me mad. It sounds to me as though the pads are shifting back and forth, as I've noticed a bit of 'give' when shunting between R and D - I didn't think the calipers would allow that sort of travel?

I'm going to get the garage to have a look at it. After all, they were the people that fitted the self-levelling headlight sensor part for me in the first place. Thanks for the suggestion about swapping them over. I'll certainly mention that to them.

If there's no physical connection problem it's definitely worth a try, but depends if they have VCDS or similar which will let them look at the measuring blocks for sensor voltage and see if the problem stays at the front or moves to the back.

ETA - also the light won't go off the dash even when the sensor has been replaced until the basic settings for headlight level is run through, but you should I think see the self levelling bit start working when you turn the lights on

I had some issues with corrosion in the connector on my front levelling arm. Apparently it's designed such that the water runs down the cable straight into the connector. Might be worth checking that both parts are clean?

Car now back from its trip to the garage. The manager of the garage told me that the person who fitted it originally couldn't punch his way out of a paper bag as he'd not push-clicked the connector into the socket. He administered some immediate corrective action with the proverbial clip round the ear lol.
Headlights were now dipping correctly as expected but I still had that infernal dipped beam icon on my dashboard.

A quick trip down to see Adrian_E in Horley (nice work) with his VCDS and now all is well. I'd almost forgotten the 48 point font that the message 'OK' was displayed in. Huge! Thanks for the input on this and sorry for casting aspersions on being supplied a possibly fault part ;-)
