Compared to the list price of new S8 seems reasonable to me... not that I would be willing to pay £14k (plus insurance, maintenance, fuel etc.) to drive a car for 24 months

Pay out £14,000 and own sod all at the end. Not cheap, bonkers IMHO

If you were to buy it new and run it for the same time it would might be comparable with depreciation over the same time?

I think if you bought it new and sold it 2 years later you would loose more than 14k in depreciation.

It was deemed a good deal versus buying the car as the depreciation after 2 years was a lot more than £14k. Current 2 year old S8's are between £44k and £54k on AT so still cheaper to lease

Buying a 5 year old '8 is far less expensive way of wasting money IMHO...

I'd love one brand new, but £14 or 36k seems a lot to play for that transient pleasure.

The point is that we live in the real world.
The folk that purchase these new are Lottery Winners, professional footballers or large companies.
To me a pound is worth about 2/6d in real money so £84K is more than my mortgage.
I remember looking at a new Anglia via the NAAFI in Germany(BAOR) for the princely sum of £842, and petrol at one shilling a gallon and twenty best cigs also a shilling.
