Default Time and Weather in your Locale?

Of course I could google it but what fun is that?!

Here in the Central US of A it is 4:30 in the afternoon. Temperature has finally given way to the expected autumn numbers for Tennessee; now 65F as the sun is at about the four o'clock position, yesterday was ten degrees warmer. A beautiful sunset expected after the spectacular sunrise this AM.

As an aside, I was astonished to recently learn that much of the EU abides "Daylight Savings Time". What a completely unnecessary, obsolete practice. (I know it was probably a US idea which we still practice in all but two states, but c'mon, its time has passed)!

When I moved to TN from New York, I was surprised no schools' breaks coincided with the North's (nor with the rest of the nation's). Later I learned it is because this is tobacco country and the plants need to be cut, rest in the field a couple weeks IIRC, then harvesting and smoking til dry in barns. All of which were performed by children who absorbed near-toxic amounts of nicotine through their skin. The colleges I attended in the south had many students who were proud of their brown-stained hands!

Oh well, it keeps millions employed in our healthcare system!

(I abhor cigarettes, but do smoke cigars and other real tobacco)

Thank you for listening. I find the "trivial" differences in our Countries fascinating.

-Tom

In bonnie Scotland its 2145 and the temp is in single figures (celsius) and I have just got back from watching the fireworks display in commemoration of Guy Fawkes. For your info Tom, he was an English catholic fundamentalist who fought with Spanish against all protestants (Dutch in particular) and was intent on blowing up the English parliament building with all inside as they were Protestants. He was found out, tortured and decapitated and we now celebrate him as one of the few people who have entered Parliament with honest intentions.

Sound familiar? Could be Iraq today or America tomorrow. Only joking about the USA part.

Well I'm 400 miles South, just outside London and its about 1C and we too have been watching our village fireworks display which was, as ever, spectacular!

Then walked to the pub, had a pint, chatted to lots of people we know, came home and cooked a pizza and got stuck into a 2000 vintage bottle of excellent French wine.

PS I used to drink plenty of French wine, all over the world, long before we joined the EU so I'm not too worried about Brexit, on that aspect at least.

23:43pm here in Glasgow, 6.3°C (43°f), not long home from the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome after watching the Track Cycling World Cup and our very own Katie Archibald winning yet another gold medal. I decided to cycle to the velodrome and back and enjoyed the quietness of an evening cycle. We've had a dry & mild couple of weeks and some amazing sunshine for this time of year

Here in Northern England, where we're renowned for our flat caps and whippets (which I can assure you, I have neither), it's presently a toasty warm 3 degrees C. Of course to southern wussies (like my gf) that's considered chilly.

Funny, don't you think, that we should celebrate the attempt to blow up parliament with fireworks and bonfires?

I mean, perhaps we should celebrate it with something more appropriate .... like blowing up parliament!

I'm in the north west, twixt Manchester and Liverpool and very close to Moltuae.
I can vouch that at 04:00 this morning it was windscreen scraping time, but that was my own fault, I forgot to set the bus heaters last night. They are automatic during the week, nice and toasty when I start the school runs, and same in the afternoons.
As for bonfire night, SWMBO and I stayed in and watched a film 'cos the kids and four grandkids went out to something organised. Cost them £14 for six of them.

Nice thread OP. Howdie from sunny Warrington, Cheshire, UK.

Here it's about 5°C, and very autumnal. Crisp and cold. Whether it's GMT or BST it's beer o'clock.
