my heated steering wheel and seat are playing up ?
my drivers seat and heated wheel are playing up they seem to be intermittant and also the head rest is stuck in the up position and makes a buzzing noise when i try to move it up or down all other functions are fine
 any ideas Guy's ?

Sorry I can't help on this one - I believe my steering wheel isn't heated on my car.

its on my options list factory fitted heated steering wheel, i have lots of strange extras that seem unnecessary such as reinforced door hinges ect no idea why you would want that on a car thats not armoured il see if i can find my other post with my extras list as i wanted to know what they all were so posted them up

Hmm. In that case, possibly a typo on your build sticker input - Its an awful printout will 8's looking like B's and vice versa, and i's, l's and 1's being completely interchangeable
Its far more likely an input error than a heated steering wheel.... The only heated D2 steering wheel I've ever seen was the one I got imported from the USA by Paul Waterloo. I've never seen one on a UK car, although it was technically an option on later facelift models....

Steering wheel heating is controlled by driver heater switch. There is a separate wire between driver heating switch and MFSW control unit and it basically tells control unit if heating switch is in non-zero position. So, if both wheel heating and driver seat heating are playing, then I would make conclusion something is wrong with the heating switch and it is easy to change the switch when you remove your rns-d. I've removed my heating switch recently when upgraded to heated MFSW.

IT, the heated steering wheel option is fairly rare, but there are probably more than you think out there.
 My buddy has a 2000 3,7 Quattro Sport. It has heated steering option. This is not a retro fit - it's listed in the data sticker, and he has owned the car from new. He's not that much into cars, and wouldn't add any options, regardless of ease of fitment.

Due to the currents involved, the output from the heated seat switch is taken to the multifunction steering wheel controller, along with the dashboard illumination dimness feed, infotainment canbus for the audio control and 2 connection to the Transmission TCU for tip up/down. All this lot is munged into one data cable that passes through the slip ring into the steering wheel. Horn and airbags are wired directly and independently off all this, so there are always a dedicated 4 wires in the slipring for those (5 with dual stage on later models I guess) The heated steering wheel slip ring is then special as it has 2 concentric copper rings with two mating brushes (very scalextric) that allows the high current needed for the steering wheel to pass up to the wheel. The mini circuit board on the steering wheel takes the data from the bus, uses the +12 supply through the bushes to heat the wheel to the desired level. It also dims the LED's in the control buttons to the same brightness as the dashboard. It also passes data back to the MFSW controller to control audio / tiptronic etc. As you can tell, I got pretty involved with all this at one point....
