That Kenwood unit says it is 7" "VGA" which is normally only 640*480 resolution. Reading further down it is however stated as 800*480 which would fit the aspect ratio.

RNS-D is 5" by comparison and IIRC half VGA resolution at 320*240.

Unless you're going for an expensive iPhone-type display you won't get 1080p, and there's probably no point anyway given the maximum width and viewing distance of a driver/passenger, the eye just can't perceive more detail.

The smallest full 1080p screen I have on hand (1920*1080) is on a small notebook-size laptop and it's a 13.5" screen designed to be viewed from close up (18" or so).

This guide is quite interesting: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/by...e-relationship

Extrapolating that guide, assuming a viewing distance of between 2 and 3 feet, a 7" screen is only worth being 480p, for 720p you'd need a 10" one. And for full 1080p at least 15" or 16".
I'm sure Stephen can tell us the size and resolution of a Tesla centre screen shortly...…..
(Though I just looked it up and it's a 17" screen with roughly 1080p resolution, though newer ones are about 20% higher resolution, so in the right range)

Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)

And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Happy to help (though all I did was google, really... )

The original one (mine...) is a 17-inch tablet, with a 1920 x 1200 resolution LCD display (link here: https://www.theverge.com/2017/6/19/1...endrive-review - an old 2017 review, so very out of date in terms of software loaded....)

and the new one has 2,200 x 1,300 resolution (link here: https://www.motortrend.com/reviews/t...iew-pros-cons/)

Basically a "low resolution" by laptop standards will look nice and crisp on a small head unit screen. I would worry more about glare and viewing angles if I was you.

Well as a temporary measure until the 'definitive' solution is available, I am sticking with a custom cd slot holder for my phone

Now have to figure out the Alternator whine and all is good

I bet you £1000 you won't figure the whine out.
Source: I figured it out and that's how much the r&d cost me
