Air Con suction port
Hi Guys,
Trying to top up the air con on my D2, as the compressor is a bit noisy, and in the past with VAG cars I have found this could be due to low gas. Basically I have found 2 ports, one on the front which is fitted to the condenser (discharge) and one in the middle just below the windscreen, which appears to be suction. To check the pressure I need to attach to the suction port but it doesn't appear to be a standard automotive fitting, anyone know how to attach to this? Otherwise I'll have to vac and weigh it in, via the condenser port and I'd rather check and top it up. Thanks! Wayne

Aircon recharge
Hello, Just thought I should share my experience with you here, I have recharged by own aircon many times over the years on various cars but not my A8, it is actually unusual the fitting on the condenser is the "high side" (large) and this is the charging point, the "low side" next to the heater assembly is not a standard fitting and not intended to be used.
To be able to charge this you need equipment that can actually pump the charge in, many do not do this and rely on bottle pressure. I found a local garage who did mine for £45 but I also spoke to an independant VW Audi specialist who wanted £115 strange but Audi franchised dealers only charge £80! Hope this helps Andy |

Hi there,
Any update on this one....I also have an Aircon recharge kit, but haven't really found the ports. I did find : http://forums.audiworld.com/showthread.php?t=1753062 But its US and as such the car layout under the bonnet seems a tad different....I have an ECU box more or less where he is charging ! BTW - i found the adaptor the guy used on ebay. I've not got one yet because my bottle may fit FJC R134a TANK ADAPTER http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...tchlink:top:en Thanks, Lee |

Hi There,
I ran with my aircon being a bit low and it was ok. However in taking the front end off my mechanics managed to vent some of the gas and now it really doesn't get cold at all. I initialy took it to an aircon place nearby and it seems the S8, in particularly the later D2 models are different to the earlier ones. Arround 2000 they altered the aircon system and there is only one port on the later ones which is the high side, which is supposidly odd. The aircon rechage bottles are designed for low port systems i belive. There may be a port on the compressor Andy mentions below Now to try and find someone who can put gas into the high side. With the port at the front of the car on the radiator it should be a quick job with the right kit ! cya, Lee |
