The driver was 5 ( FIVE! ) times over the limit (reg plate starts with ST16, read into that what you will...).

Astonishing that it vaulted the 8 ft+ embankment and then cleared the Merc, before landing where it did. Not on Autopilot - though lots of very, very funny AP related puns on the Tesla forum - no-one seriously hurt, apparently...

Please don't eat me alive, but this is my perfect scenario for a good laugh:
electric car writing off a diesel, I don't like diesels unless they power up a farming equipment and electric, well, my beard trimmer is electric

FYI, what people drive is not my business and I would not criticise any one for owning either of the cars, unless they are my good friends where banter will always flow always around the type of the engine each time we talk about cars or want to wind up each other

Tesla do looks better than a diesel Merc tho and acceleration is very impressive, shame you can't hear it

Will I regret this post? Time will tell

Yup...

Also, fyi, here's a US road test of not one, but two, EVs - the Tesla (discontinued) S60 and the new Chevrolet Bolt - which won't be coming to the UK

Let me try to score some points back based on my honesty.
I do like the colour of your ''beard trimmer''

I will finally get a good drive of a Tesla in about 3 weeks time, having needed to get away from the Wales meet (last year) too early.

They're bringing some cars to a venue near Hatfield and I've got a 1-hour slot booked for a road test. I've gone for a fairly early one on the basis it will still be reasonably charged.

2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Interesting to see if the insurance will pay out as some have a disclaimer that they will only pay 3rd party if under the influence of drink or drugs

Tesla crashes into a Merc dealership
There is a pun in there somewhere, I am scratching my head what it is.
Is this Tesla saying it desperately wants to be a Merc, or its it trying to say to Mercedes that's it the party is over?

I'm also booked in for a test drive

I can't think of a Merc related pun but I wonder if the Tesla driver was charged

I was fortunate enough to get a test drive at the Wales meet. For anyone who hasn't driven a Tesla yet, you're going to love it, especially the performance models

I was left with just two questions after driving a Tesla: Can I afford one and where am I going to keep it?

Lol that's a good one.

If they were cheaper I would get one too, my main worry was road trips to Europe which I do almost every year, but it looks like the supercharger network is good enough in most countries. Also it would be hard to say no to practically free travel (if you avoid the French toll-roads )
