No, I wouldn't use a supermarket fuel either and almost always use a 'blue chip' (BP/Esso/Shell - but I don't like Esso petrol stations) brand and the 'premium' petrol.

I get better MPG on BP Ultimate than on the standard fuel (much earlier post) and the car definitely 'feels' better on the good stuff.

And my little test suggests that the Shell 'good stuff' might be better than the BP 'good stuff', at least in MPG terms .

But Shell stations are seriously off the beaten track around here (unless, like Brian, you have to crawl to work down the Great Western Road every day ) and, IMHO, life's too short (especially at my age - before someone else says it!).

With regard to an earlier post of mine regarding the EMS light (frequently coming on as a result of Lambda issues) magically disappearing when I switched to Shell V-power/Nitro+/Racing... well, after, having had to put in two tanks of 95RON (availability in the highlands ain't what it should be) the light has come back on. Next part of the unintended trial is now to go get some 98RON/V-power and see if it goes out. Will do that this week as am heading down to Southampton on Friday.

I've had 2 tankfuls of Tesco Momentum in mine lately (to cover last weekend mainly) and it's definitely nicer to drive and gives somewhat better fuel economy.
Though the fuel economy maths doesn't justify the price.

My trip down to the Annual meeting showed a DIS figure of 24.4, I know the DIS is not too accurate but thats all I have ever used to determine MPG so at least its comparing like for like, anyway the 24.4 is better than I have ever achieved before, however more importantly the car feels much crisper, smoother and more responsive, so even at £1.43.9 on the way back up I think I will stick with it

My average has crept up to 22.0mpg (on DIS).
And I bought both tanks of Momentum on the 10p/litre reduction offer.

Fuel light came on while driving home from the Western Isles on Sunday. Thought I'd pop into the Shell on Anderson Drive on Monday lunchtime as I had to go into town anyway.

Got there and it said 'No Diesel' on all the pump fronts! Argh! I'm almost out, I've done 30 miles with the light on and the nearest anything else is miles away!

However VPower Nitro+ was still available - so 'No Diesel' really meant 'No Cooking Diesel'

A £120 later I had filled it. Having said previously I saw no real difference I will be watching it carefully this time.

I've now been running only on Vpower Nitro for all the fills since Tesco Momentum and perception is that it's definitely smoother, quieter and faster.
22.4mpg showing now whereas it was below 21mpg earlier in the year and my PF (which was usually on 95) was always about 20.5mpg.

looks like you guys might be getting a local supply if the Shell logo on the back of the marketing crap for Waitrose is a clue..............
