I can now confirm I am able to fix the hard shifting both up and down the box after much deliberation on 90% of all zf boxes regardless of vehicle this seems to affect bmw, jaguar, Audi ,ford ect..

No need for lifeguard 8 oil in fact at all or even a software change.

The fix is to referbish the mechatroniks unit and replace all solenoids and replace all worn seals and gaskets, replace ball bearings. followed by a flush of the system and new filters and fresh oil ect.

Some garages will say that your box requires a rebuild or replacement that could be £3500+ to fix..

We charge £785 including parts and labour and VAT. We put a 24 week warrenty on the work and it will come back to you silky smooth the work takes 24 hours + adaptation drive of 50 miles and we do have curtacy cars.

Guy, Once again "You are the Super Star".
Thanks for sticking with it and managing to resolve a major problem for us.
It will be good to have the works car back in the fold earning it's keep. Our clients might stop complaining that the Chrysler 300C is not good enough.

Glasgow or Kent? Hmm, both a long trip. Is there anyone recommended around Manchester?

At least Glasgow or Kent dont involve an overnight on the Ferry and a trek across France. Several people have gone to ZF in Dortmund for a gearbox service, it appears to be incredible value for money too.
Apologies in advance that the info relates to a Bmw !

Swindon to be exact, but then I am a pedantic old sod.
Two and a half hours from Wigan, and well worth the effort.
We usually set off early doors to beat the traffic and plan a "Little Chef" breakfast at Chichester en route.

Glasgow, all day every day (but I'm VERY biased - and not against Guy either ). And no - Chester Autotransmissions don't match this service level.

Default MOT Passed but Leaky Advisory

Well that's the MOT passed for another year on the old girl.

All good, but one advisory was a small oil leak. I asked the dealer to look into this as I have had a little leak for a while.

The MOT chap said it was coming from the boot by the front drivers side drive shaft out the gearbox.

Interesting that its there as its had a new box from Mackies in the last 2 years.

Just a quick question as I am not that far from Wiltshire, is this purely a seal replacement and top up job for a couple of hours that you could do?

As good as the place I use in Gloucester is I would rather have someone who knows D2s and gearboxes!

http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...rvice-DORTMUND!
A lot of Phaeton brethren go to Dortmund too. Sounds like a great trip but I can't really justify it on a 10 year old motor, maybe when I update to D4.

Interestingly il be off to Glasgow for a few nights soon to go and learn a bit from Mackies as they have offered to help me out with the BMWs and Audi Variation.
As the machine I use is the same as Mackies and the procedure is the same they have offered to give me a better insight as to the wide range of applications it's acctually capable of especially given I bought it purely for doing A8s. And its capabilities reach far beyond just Audi and in fact it's able to do almost every range of ZF gearbox including pdk porsch and so on

They are surprisingly supportive acctually "Not sure if it's due to spending quite a bit on services items" or they just don't mind me being the other end of the country .. but either way I'm great full of the support
