Default That Audi Concert volume issue

Hi
I know its a well documented problem, but mine seems to be getting gradually worse. So my question,Is there a known repairer or is it just as economical to get one from E bay,as some of the, hate to say it,main dealers are selling them at sub £100 pounds, brand new delivered?
I think its to do with a certain microchip breaking down, are these readily available to buy?I do have acces at work to some electronic chaps,so could go down this road as well?
What other concert units fit from other models as well,A4,A6 etc?
Any ideas Guys and Girl
I do like to keep the car, original look,I know I could get a aftermarket unit but they ruin the look in my opinion.
Cheers
Rich

I stripped the unit in my A6. If you take the front panel off you can remove the tiny little POT that is breaking down. SOmetimes you'll be able to repair it but I got a new one from my local electrical place. £1.90 fixed!

Yeah, it's the one connected to the volume knob!

Seriously, it's dead easy but the plastic knob comes out from behind and it sits on the potentiometer. Just de-solder it and take to your loocal electric shop....

That means I'll have to strip my A6 stereo again!

I will try to do this but won't get time till Tuesday. Will try though. It saved my sanity - I was sick of either very quiet or suddenyl VERY LOUD!!!!

Update.
As my stereo has only a volume issue,we have since decided, after taking the pot apart, its not the pot at fault, but the microchip its attached to,so does anyone know the number or whereabouts a replacement could be sourced, its made by motorola but thats all we have to go on.Its now got my mate curious and he wants to see it through,if poss, but in the meantime I might purchase another unit,as,its nice driving these cars and realising how well they are made, but its nice to have a bit of music.
