Hi Darren,

Superb sorry for the late reply (1 month :S)

Yes this would be good if you don't mind? I need to get hold of an older TCU as well if anyone has a cheap one going?

Cheers!!

Sorry to digress here.

Ian, when an S8 is retro fitted with an 01E 6-speed manual, obviously the ECU has to be coded, so it doesn't try communicating with an absent TCU, thus throwing a CEL.

Once coded, will the engine still have the S8's 7,000 rpm redline? And is this something you'd be interested in helping me out with? Of course, I'll cross your palms (and soles of your feet) with silver, and pour quality Budweiser down your throat with a rather large funnel!

It sis simple one digit change in software coding with VCDS, 2 minute job. It will be something like 11753 changed to 11713, nothing else changes, ECU just knows that it has manual instead of automatic and does not look for communication with TCU

I have taken a copy of ElsaWin info on coding, posted in your 01E thread. My mechanic already changed it on mine to show it can be done, code was accepted no password needed, and then changed back again before starting the car (as its still got the auto box of course). I'm not sure this will solve all the ECU issues but TozoM8 in the USA drove it with the auto-box ECU without problems.

The 2,8 A8 was available with a 5-speed manual tranny in Europe.

Hei.
Sorry for bringing up this old thread, but how did it go with the retrofitting S-mode in an 00 S8?
