Default RNS-D CD changer problems

Folks,

I have what I think is the RNS-D Nav+ unit on my 1998 4.2Q, connected to a 6-CD changer in the boot. I was recently away for 3 weeks, when I got back the changer did not want to work- After powering up it came up "ERROR" on the display. However, it then started working again for a while, and has now ceased to work again!

Any ideas what this is? Removing and re-inserting the changer cartridge doesn't seem to work to any appreciable degree.

There is an intermittent water leak in the boot, nothing major but may cause it to be slightly damp in there- Could this be upsetting the changer?

Ta.

Sam

if theres a bit of damp about and it's had 3 weeks to do it it might have misted up the cd reader lens in the player part of the changer? The changer bolts in with 4 bolts (10 mm i think) so i'd be tempted to take it out and pop it some where warm and dryish indoors for a few hours then try it again to see if that makes it work, if it does, find the leak and sort it out, then dry the boot out, if not i'm sure a second hand one won't be too hard to find.

Thanks, I was thinking much the same. I felt the GPS unit/changer yesterday and there was the definite whiff of damp/cold. I'll probably try to air it out somehow, plug dehumidifier in there etc. The leak really isn't big enough to worry about... Damp rather than wet!

I'm not sure why, but this now seems to be an intermittent fault- Any ideas??

could just be the laser head needs cleaning or getting condensation on it?
mine stops working like once or twice a year usually winter but lately seems to be ok. you could try a CD head cleaner to eliminate that one first

Thanks for that. I'm 99% sure it's the problem now- It's very clear that the CD changer isn't working on the damper/colder days.

When I get a few spare minutes I'll get it out and properly dried out. Might stick a dehumidifier in the boot for a while too
