little update.
i pulled the passenger side boot trim off and found the gps connection there. its all good. so conclusions to be drawn: 1. there is an internal cable break somewhere 2. the RNS unit itself is broken 3. the GPS antenna is faulty i have previously been able to pick up accurate GPS on the RNS when i took the antenna apart a couple of weeks ago, it worked sporadically for a couple of hours. since then, nothing. so i reckon the RNS is working OK with the signals (when it receives them!). |

Quick update from my phone. GPS seems to be working, the satnav is showing correct location and 8 satellites. The problem was with the connector on the antenna tail, the wire was loose going into the connector so not making good contact. A bit of fuse tape to hold it in place temporarily and a test drive tomorrow around Norfolk will prove or disprove the fix

Easy enough I reckon! Drove about 100 miles today and the satnav was faultless. I will make the fix more permanent by crimping or shrink wrapping the wire securely into the connector.
I couldnt have done it without the help and advise I found on this forum 😁

You're presumably aware that the antenna is powered by a voltage supplied up the cable from the RNS.
As such it's extremely important that not only are the connections good on both core and sheath, but also that there's no short circuit.

I figured it was an active unit judging by the onboard circuitry, the repair job is well wrapped with fuse tape but I will do a proper repair job and insulate it. Thanks for he confirmation
