Default New Stevie Mobile ...

I'm slowly being reeled in by my local Audi dealer ... He has a pre-reg A8L, pre-facelift 3.0 TDI, < 100 miles.... many 10's of thousands off ...

Going to have to run it past the missus, but I'm getting that new car feeling.

Seems a bit mad to go to all the trouble to make a car 5" longer/shorter I guess the only different bit is the body shell, manuals and L on the back?

Also it has 20" alloys, any view on them in terms of ride quality?

You know it makes sense
I have 20"s and they are fine for the ride quality Imho the only thing I notice is tyre noise but that's probably as the car is so damn quiet! I may try another make of tyre when they are due for a change, mine has Goodyears on from new.
I tried a long wheel base model before buying mine they are fantastic motors, often well spec'd too. But then I realised I struggled to park the D3 I had before
Normal spaces just are not A8 size and that's just the width never mind how much of the car sticks out! Plus it's mainly only me in this monster and occasionally Mrs C so rear legroom wasn't a big issue.
The D4 is a great motor and I haven't really found fault with mine since I bought it in June.
Let us know what you decide, what colour is it?
Cheers Glyn

Dark Blue...

I've had my existing D4 for a year and seems to be getting smaller. Was up in Edinburgh at the weekend dropping the boy off at Uni, managed to do a 20 point turn around in a very tight spot... Also raised the suspension and did a bit of 4x4ing ...up a curb and side on a grass slope. No problem.

It is literally 5" longer. The L does have some really nice options as standard.

Gonna go for a straight A8 3.0 TDI. I've had a think about the L, but I'm not that bothered with the standard options, not enough to fork out for them.

I've get a stock car now and there isn't much wrong with it really.

Options I'm thinking about ...
  • Rear Seat heaters - For the cold winters mornings with the family.
  • Advanced Key, so keyless entry and boot opening with. - No more fiddling with the key to open the door, or boot with handfull of stuff.
  • Bluetooth High with Audi Connect - Never have enough bluetooth, also will make the car a wireless hotspot, again keeping passengers very happy.

Off to review the options list one more time ...

Missus has green lighted the new one.

Glad your getting sorted mate
I have the rear heated seats or bum warmers as my kids call them
Advance key is a good option too
One day I will sort out the wireless thingy I know the phones see it so I assume I just need to assign a password .... But as I am mainly on my tod it's not a major problem but if I get stuck stuck in a jam it will be useful to use the ipad I guess.
I had the option of another motor when I bought mine which was stacked with added goodies night vision and such but I felt the extra five grand was too much and you never get any if it back really. The cars come with a great level of spec plenty enough for me. I do like the Bose sounds which is why I was chasing down the sport model.
Funny you mention the good lady mine did the same and said you will only be happy with another A8 so go get what you want. She knows I can be a miserable sod if I don't enjoy my car, after all we spend a fair bit of time in them!
Let me know how you get on
Cheers Glyn

Adaptive cruise - Try it before you dont buy it, its priceless with our ever congested highways & number one on my option list every time....

Agree, stick to SWB. The limos have poorer resale values generally...

Adaptive cruise is a strange one, I have mates who rave about it! An acquired taste I guess, I have had it fitted on two different motors and it never really grew on me enough to justify the added cost.
I found I became tired of the car hitting the brakes to maintain it's set distance when some jerk pulled in, across my bonnet in front of me as I was happily cruising along at my set speed even though they were pulling away from me. Great in the road works during the ever increasing 50mpg stretches though.
I had two versions of it one in the E55 which would slow down to a point but the second more advanced one in the XK which would effectively bring the car to a stop.
I am probably a control freak though so these things don't appeal
I do fancy the HUD though as I nearly bought the A7 with that fitted, and a mate has it on his 6 series which is nice.
Actually if you going for the SE have a look at the Matrix LED headlights on the sport as they are stunning, mine has the earlier version fitted but the light output/difference is amazing.
I can see the price creeping up now you have posted this Steve

I've got 20's on mine and the ride quality is fine. The sidewall are 40 preofile so still absorn some of the ubbish!

Reat heated seats are a must if you've got munchies.

The adaptive cruise is very difficult to find second hand otherwise it'd have been on mine without doubt.

Ok, update ...

I've sold the A8 ... 20K miles, one year of ownership. 4,500 depreciation, of which 1K was due to a cracked headlight. So to be fair 3,500 ~ 17.5p a mile.

Very happy with that. ... On to the next car ... well I've grown tired of ringing the Audi dealer, so I've gone and leased me a Golf.

It all started with the wife saying why do you need such a large car? So I had a look on a leasing site and they were doing DSG Golfs for 270 a month .... I thought ok, So what is a Golf R ? LOL. Ok, 4 wheel drive, 300BHP and a 0-60 of 4.9 ... I thought yea, I'll have a Golf ...

So I figured what the hell I'll have that for two years and maybe go for an A8 after that.

So the story ends for me ... for now ...

Is Bose worth having. I have seen a 2011 D4 A8 which has everything I want bar BOSE. Is BOSE worth hanging on for? This car has Sports Seats etc so I quite like it

Cheers
