Default FL D2 plastic door handle inserts: 2 part or 1 part?

D2 FL cars came with two types of internal door handle inserts:
1. fake wood 2. plastic.
I have fake wood ones, but wanted to shift to plastic.

Do I understand correctly that plastic handle inserts from late FL D2 cars are made of two parts?

Here is an example of 2 part set: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132008422603
However this set comes from 1998 car.
Are the facelift ones different?

Well those are being sold by our sponsor so give them a call and ask, they will DEFINITELY know.

That said, I don't understand the question, those look like normal door inserts to me and I thought they were all the same (apart from painted vs fake veneer as noted).

Finally the set linked too looks a bit flaky on the front passenger switch panel.

What exactly do you want, I have several spare bits of that type in beige plastic that could be repainted? I definitely have the switch panels and probably the bottom shells too.

Edit: Ah, I see what you mean now! Just looked at the listing again.

The ones I have, which are from a VERY LATE FL D2 have a single top section/moulding for both the switch surround and grab handle hole. Then you just have the bottom piece that feeds up and joins it, so 2 parts per door, not 3!

Thanks Andrew,

Yes, I basically looking for all-plastic inserts from very late D2s (or Final Edition), which, as you just confirmed, are single-top-section design.

Is anyone selling?

Cheers.

What colour wood / plastic do you have now? I'd happily swap black plastic for maple on black, although mine would need painting to bring them up to your standards...

I plan to paint them, so colour is not important.

Pictures how they actually look like would be great.
I haven't seen these plastic handles.

Can't find them on ETKA either. Found only fake wood handles there.

Hi Sergey

I am confused about this thread, but I do have a set of genuine late FL (FE) plastic door inserts available. I replaced mine with 'dark maple' fake wood inserts and was planning to refurbish the plastic ones. But those plans are now abandoned as I like the 'wood' insets better.

Let me know if you're intersted.

Best regards, Jim

Jim, I expect yours will be like mine (but a different colour - black?) so will have the top surface actually painted metal. Have a careful look at them.

Sergey is trying to find parts that are 100% plastic to make painting/repainting easier. Though I would have thought that, with the right paints, it wouldn't matter.

Hi Jim.

As Andrew explained, I decided to use pre-facelift handles that are fully plastic and can be taken down to basic components. In the middle of previous page I showed 4 pictures of what I mean.

I ordered some parts from A8 Parts and from Audi Tradition to do this project and if I succeed I will do a write up.

Thanks for offering the handles. If my project will fail I will take yours.

P.S. I thought your car is dark Myrtle wood actually?...

A lot of the later cars (and maybe earlier ones too?) had just plain painted panels around the door switches, the same colour as the surrounding plastics.
Mine did originally but I swapped them for wood effect.
