Default Finally.........

Having had little, if anything positive to say about the A8 D5, or its pathetic press release I did stumble across the Audi Configurator today in a moment of boredom and I'm thrilled to see that Adaptive Cruise is now standard, for the first time ever..... its only taken 16 years !!

However, it seems that twin pane glass is now optional... sheesh....

Glad to hear it - though it'd be even more useful if coupled with auto lane changing and steering . Or maybe it does that too now and I missed it?

went to see a D5 last week.
underwhelmed.
but maybe that is the way Audi want future owners to feel.
and if you have OCD, this car is NOT for you.
visible fingerprints all over the front screens. !!!!
its meant to be a 'clean' cockpit design
going to try and keep my A8L 4.2TDi as long as i can

I suspect it's aimed almost exclusively at fleet buyers who are looking after the back seat passengers.
Enthusiast owner-drivers are no longer on the radar.

Have a look at the early D2 brochures in contrast, very much expecting the owner (OK, youngish and trendy) to be driving himself (it was the 1990s so not herself....).

If they can fit rain-sensing wipers outside surely they have a solution for that!
At the very least I can see a new Audi accessory appearing at the dealers:

2003 D2 FL S8. Irish Green Pearl/Beige. Solar sunroof, auto-dim mirrors, electric rear seat functions, ski hatch retrofit; extended leather. Aftermarket DVB-T, reversing camera and full XCarlink (Bluetooth etc.).
2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

On the plus, if some teabag steals it, there is a good chance of picking up some fingerprints lol
