If I had that choice think I would go for the Jag

both good cars.

My father has a C350CDI Sport Estate, as many gadgets as a D3 S8 and very very quick.

Don't be fooled by the 'official' fuel figures though, mid-high 30s is more realistic in the Merc, don't know about the Jag.

I usually look at the urban figures these days as a more realistic average

The only car you should be considering is a D3 TDI, now I'm beginning to doubt your sanity too!

1. You get to keep quattro
2. Ben continues to service your car
3. You continue to attend the annual A8 Germany meets you love
4. Much much better build quality

I've been in a Jag XF, what a horrible cheap feeling interior. D3 all the way, say the word and Ian and the other D3 clan will keep a lookout for a good one for you.

See Ian's recent thread on his 24 hour experience with his new D3, he is getting 650 miles to a tank. You can probably pick one up for around £10k, and if your argument is, the Jag and Merc are slighter newer and come with a warranty. I can put you in touch with a decent warranty company that will cover your D3 for three years, and pay out without quibble.

All very valid arguments Amar. However the financials and my needs don't add up I'm afraid. I want a smaller car than the 8, as it will be used daily and I am not willing to squeeze through London side roads in a big car. I want something that will average 35mpg in mixed driving and be as quick as my S. I'm not willing to loose the performance or fun factor. For the moment that means something like the Merc, which I am increasingly favouring. I'll have to miss the German A8 meet, but I would still come to the Nurburgring.

Default bmw 535 or 525

If ur gona be sensible then the 525d is my choice....but to allow for fun factor 535d is right up there....

The merc 350 great looking car...but have a friend with issues rite now...and when they start it gets expensive very quickly....

Cool

Met him for his discs in a certain German marque's "Direct" dealership in Hemel Hempstead....

He was just finalising the deal...

Was trying to persuade him to go C63, or for a rather fetching Brabus fettled Whale-Class diesel....
