I noticed something similar after finding my battery flat fairly recently. All OK now without any intervention but took a few days to resync.

2003 D2 FL S8. Irish Green Pearl/Beige. Solar sunroof, auto-dim mirrors, electric rear seat functions, ski hatch retrofit; extended leather. Aftermarket DVB-T, reversing camera and full XCarlink (Bluetooth etc.). 2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation".  (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!  Finally: gone, but not forgotten..... 1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors. e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course.  (internal dimming mirror added later)1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer. And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

I never lost a mast symbol in all these years. Not a single time.
Car is regularly on the road though. If cluster was without power it may have lost one hour shift between Germany and UK, which is very easy to correct as soon as mast symbol returns.

Follow Sergey's instructions for resetting the clock by pulling the instrument cluster fuse and it should then re-sync fairly quickly after leaving it parked up for a couple of hours.
I had odd behaviour from mine once, after it was left parked in the garage for several weeks, and this was the only way to resolve.

My mast symbol eventually returned after a week or two, but no amount of fuse pulling and 'tricking' the clock would force it. Like when I first installed it, I just had to let it find the signal on its own. Interestingly, on both occasions, it took much more than the 3 days that Sergey's write suggests is when it should 'forget' that it's there.
RS6 - I'd be happy to help fit one if you're not far from NG13 post code (but I've not fitted the receiver to the spot where Sergey's is - that's a bit trickier, although I have heard that ther's a 'short cut' to pulling out all the back of the dash!

Mine, as mentioned earlier, is behind the dash to the left of the steering column, immediately above the removable knee panel; works fine. Held by blu-tak!
 To fit it there you "only" have to remove the knee panel and the socket on the back of the instruments is accessible from behind. That "should" just involve unclipping the small trim below the steering column and undoing a few (5?) screws/bolts to remove the knee panel. PS James (RS6) is down in Fareham, nowhere near you Jim.
