Default Rear Caliper Question

I have a leak from the passenger rear caliper on my 04 D3 4.2

The question I have is this, Obviously I am going to replace the caliper and am going down the exchange option. I see on a number of the usual suppliers that there are a range of part numbers ranging from 303 and 304 through to 303D and 304D. these in turn link through to a number of TRW part numbers which seem to fall into two variants which appear to have a price difference.

As it happens in the boot (spare wheel area) the build sticker seems to have reference to the 1KW option which eludes to the cheaper of the variants.

Can anyone on the boards confirm interchangeability, and is there a cheat sheet for decoding the build sheet?

Many thanks in advance

Cam

I recently replaced a rear caliper on mine. The caliper themselves are identical what ever PR code you have, excluding ceramics, and the steel S8's are only painted black but still the same caliper. Only difference is offside or nearside. It's the caliper carrier that changes to accommodate the difference in rear disc size.

If you only have a fluid leak I would consider a rebuild kit of new seals and dust boot. That's what I was going to do to mine as initially I had a stuck piston. But on closer inspection my EPB case had a crack in it, even though I had no EPB errors I decided to fit a complete new unit. Having advice from Delboy I fitted it myself, cheers mate

It cost me £194 for the new caliper after I received the surcharge back. All in all a fairly simple task if you have VCDS.

I ordered mine from ECP and I believe the cut off was around 2008...if yours is older they are cheaper

I also had cracked EPBs similar to the picture above ...

Mine are 1KE, but take the same calipers - there's also 25% (code HOLIDAY25)off today so drops the price down to £170
