Parking Brake Malfunction - mounted a kerb
Hi guys, need some help or guidance!
I accidentally mounted a kerb while manouvering into a tight space yesterday - front nearside wheel up a kerb (in D) at very low speed, and got a parking brake malfunction warning almost immediately. Since then it's come on and off intermittently when starting the car - when it's on and I try and engage the parking brake, the (P) indicator flashes and then engages in full. Sometimes the fault doesn't come on and the parking brake fully works as normal. Obviously not a huge issue but a bit of an annoyance. Can anyone help with what I could do? I assume that I moved (fractionally) the ABS sensor or upset a caliper sensor or something, that just needs clearing. Unfortunately I don't have VCDS at home but can get to one over the next week. Alternatively I know there's a sequence to clear the parking brake fault (I saw Marcin use it when unplugging and plugging back in the parking brake switch) but I don't know what it is. Cheers in advance. |

After a drive put the gearbox in Park, leave EPB off, ignition off, remove key, then see if it recalibrates. Sometimes you have to build up some mileage in between calibrations.

I just did a run and the fault came on. Parked up and left the EPB off, but didn't hear anything. I'll try it again tomorrow. Anyone else have other suggestions? |

Water in the connector?
I don't see how banging a front wheel could cause an EPB fault other than the shockwave loosening something that is already dodgy. Electromechanical EPB faults can only come on when applying or taking off the EPB. An error while not using it is usually the connector's middle two pins. I got one as soon as started up on a rough ferry crossing, annoying tone and warning everytime i started the car, though it still seemed to work ok. it persisted for 3 months until i booked in to Audi to get it fixed
on the way to the dealer i had an errand to run and i had to park on a kerb. when i came out it was fixed, and never happened again.

Thanks both.
I'll monitor it over the next few days - given the EPB works perfectly I'm more inclined to believe something's gone out of place, or momentarily did and now the fault's just staying on. I'll get it plugged in as soon as I can. In the meantime, if there are any other ideas that would be awesome. |

if you have the long tone warning for about 90 seconds when you start the same as i did, you dont need to clear the fault, as it checks on start up. maybe its just a sensor that has moved a little.
