Default Ceramic Rear Brake Calliper Paint

My S8 has ceramic brakes and I love (performance) and fear (cost) them in equal measure.

The front callipers are painted in a nice metallic grey with the words 'Audi Ceramic' on them with the Audi Sport red trapezoid. Apart from a slightly rusty-looking bolt, they look lovely.

The rears, however, are another story altogether. They look crappy and look like they were never painted. The dark grey Hammerite-esque finish is peeling off and they look terrible.

Does anyone have any pictures of what the rear ceramic brake callipers should look like? Are they this ugly by design?!

They look just fine to me. They look OEM (not aftermarket or refinished). I would leave them. And as for cost. I did the pads (rears for £240 and the fronts for £320). And they seem to last forever. If I believe the service history and print outs, then it did 110k miles on the rears and 120k miles on the fronts! Is that even possible?

Oh and one warning from my personal experience is not to rely on the brake pad wear sensors on these. They are fitted on mine but served no purpose whatsoever. Seemingly these discs don't make a circuit very well.. I would not bother to fit them next time.

TPS for the fronts and a supplier in Germany for the rears. All OEM parts. I did consider some TRW pads advertised as a suitable fitment but the TRW web site gave conflicting information - so I decided against the pattern part (not worth the risk of destroying the disc).

The most recent (fronts) fitted are stamped "Pagid P40 - 3V - RR" and "Pagid P40 - 3V - GG - A15" behind the Audi part plate. They have a more 'aggressive grab' the ones I took off. Mind; there was not very much material on the ones I took off!

I think I kept one of the old fronts and one of the old rears that I took off (and they may have different brand and part numbers). I would have to check.. I will check the Germany supplier for you too when I get back to the UK.

Just to add, I didn't realise the OEM pads were Pagid. I saw them on a UK parts site, but I can't remember which. They were the only pads I've seen for the 1LW fitment.

So the supplier of the rear pads in Germany was - Wv-Cars 110 Hammer Straße, 59425 Unna. I have an email address of wv-cars@t-online.de

And even better; the price was in Euro not GBP. So €233 for the rears including shipping.

The rears, I took off were Audi OEM but also had the TRW part # 5136 PFS stamped on them
