Default Brake Pad Warning Light

My brake pad warning light came on this evening, however all 4 pads have well over half their life remaining.

I had just washed the car before I moved it. Is there a hands the sensor could've been knocked somehow? I really wasn't rough with the power hose though.

If there is at least half of the material left then more likely it was going to happen due to some poor connection issue probably and it finally, unfortunately, happened.
Unplug the connector, check for any signs of water or possibly damaged wire, dry/repair it and see.

Thanks. I take it you need the wheels off to check that? Couldn't see anything through the spokes.

No way to determine which corner is at fault?!

If its a loose sensor then will only be the front, no sensors on the rear but they work through the handbrake ECU which works of the pad thickness..... So only two wheels to check

Thanks. I spoke too soon I fear, it comes on at some point in each journey now.

I'll get the wheels off and have a look at the weekend.

Whats best to use to clean the connection?

I had a similar issue with my D2, pads were only months old so knew there was a fault rather than pad wear. It's more annoying than anything so I was determined to find it. Wheels off and cables checked for damage, connections checked closely and dried out plugs and sprayed in some WD40 and I've never had the problem since. You may "fix it" without even finding the cause but sounds like you've had some water ingress in when washing the car.

Good luck

Fingers crossed its that easy!

Is there an actual plug connection as such on the D3's do you know? I assume the calliper/pad won't need to come out?

There's a plug.. it's down behind on the caliper side of the hub from memory...

Cheers.

Is it possible to check the inside pad wear with the wheels turned, or do you need to take the calliper off?

Will the light come on if the discs are worn too?
