V5 in an A4?
Didnt think they did the V5 in the A4 did they? suspect he might be confusing the fact it says 5v on the engine, thinking this might be a reasonable daily driver, any advice on what I should look for on these, bearing in mind that the price is less than what attending the annual meet will cost me
http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-m...-v5/1017772972 EDIT must have been OK its gone already

5v is 5 valves per cylinder, V5 is 5 cylinders.

Except Audi only do a in-line 5, not a V5, nobody does as far as I know!
5V is 5V per cylinder as Sat says.

Usual stuff:
If auto avoid front wheel drive multitronic - it's dreadful and unreliable. Really old A4s will still be proper autos 5v suffers oil pickup issues, particularly turbo cars. Needs the sump dropping and pickup cleaning every few years. If oil changes neglected turbo oil seals get knackered. They ALL like a drink of oil Fuel economy on our 1.8t auto passat was no better than our 3.0 v6 around town Cheap front suspension joints failing If you don't need all the space consider a Seat as well - decent steer the Leon and Cordoba

VW used to do a V5 engine, fitted to Golfs and Boras... Not a 'true' V5, but was marketed as such on the badges.

Isn't it basically the VR6 block with 1 cylinder lopped off?
Remember seeing a VR6 block without head on recently and it really is narrow angle! All pistons are in the same plane/plain and sit flush to the head face, so only 1 head required. It should be called an offset inline 5/6 cylinder really!

VW did a VR5/V5 in the B5/B5.5 Passat and Mk4 Golf/Bora. 2.3 5 cylinder degree V. started with 2 vales per cylinder with 150bhp then 4 valves and 170bhp.
The VR6/V6 narrow angle block came in 12v form in the Mk3 Golf/Vento and B4 passat and 174bhp. The V6 was then continued in the Mk4 golf/bora 4motion with 2.8 and 24v (204bhp) and the R32 with a 3.2 24v v6(240bhp) then upgraded to 250bhp in the mk5 golf R32. This was then replaced with a 2.0T 265bhp 4 cylinder for the Mk6 Golf/Scirocco R. The V6 in the B5/B5.5 passat is the wide angle audi unit (2.8, 30v, 193bhp) The Audi 1.8 came in 20v (5 valve per cylinder) in turbo(150/160/180/210/225bhp) and non-turbo (125bhp) The B6 A4, B5.5 Passat and C5 A6 came with a 2.0 20v 134bhp engine in some markets. This was replaced by the 2.0FSI 150bhp engine. Hopefully this clears things up. Last edited by S4_Sat; 31st May 2013 at 09:46 AM. |
