Default Shopper to Regular...

Hi,

For my 2 penuth (a unit of currency still popular ooop North)....

I can access buyers anywhere. Friends to keep my A8 running are mostly here.

Can someone go from shopper to forum regular? Yes, if they ask for help, say "Ta!" Then try to help others.

If the relationship is based on brass alone I'm not sure...

Try it as an experiment? Who knows! If it changes the vibe, change after 12 months??

Robert

Adrian_E pointed to me this forum from AudiSRS when duffys car was for sale, I couldn't see the ads so I signed up and then started reading a lot more.

Bought the car, still a member. Most forum are like this, TTforum, ClassicAudi, etc

Used to be on an Australian Mazda 323F forum 15 years ago.
The amount of spam on that site was horrendous.
It was abandoned about 8 years ago but I still get the weekly digest in to an old email address with about 20 spam messages on threads I was following back then.

Don't understand one thing, how can you get a spam when you cannot post only viewing the tread?
Not very good in IT so forgive me
If for sale section would be available for viewing only, someone likes the add can register after. There are so many forums out there can be viewed without registering, srs is one of them (I'm not registered but still can view everything, am I spaming the forum like that?)

And AudiSRS is indeed a place that suffers from spam. (Spam affects the servers and administrators hugely, less so the users)
I'm with Neil on this one (also as an IT person). Keep it closed.

1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)

And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

You can't. You'd have to be logged in to spam the forum.

Also, it's possible to virtually eliminate spam with the right forum software and registration challenges.

I agree that view-only would be a good idea. I'm not familiar with vBulletin but with most other forum software I've worked with it's possible to configure which sections are publically viewable or viewable to members only.

Likewise

When the FE comes up for sale I'll put it on here first precisely because it's a closed marketplace of enthusiasts. Being closed is an asset as far as I'm concerned since I know there would be serious buyers only and no tyre-kickers.
If it doesn't sell here then I will market it to the general public on ebay and Autotrader.

Before I read your post I was thinking it should be opened up for larger coverage. However, I think you have hit the nail on the head MJ and although it is a limited audience here, members can sell elsewhere if it doesn't sell.

i guess the idea was to save costs as AT etc are expensive.

I think also if you open it up to be viewed by unregistered members, then you also open it up to be found in many more searches by spammers so keeping it undercover helps a lot with keeping the numbers that try to a minimum

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
A serious buyer that really wants a well looked after A8/S8 will register as a member.
Who wants Tyre Kickers/Time Wasters/Test Pilots ?
