Default Free/Cheap Things To Do.

With the wife losing her job due to the company going into administration, my current and future plans for the car (and house) have been put on hold.

I'm now thinking of the little bits you can do to the car without having to worry about the expense.
It might be interesting to see what ideas people come up with.

Apart from cleaning the only idea I got at the moment is De-badging and tightening the spring on the key.

If I think of anything else I'll post up.
Has anyone got any ideas?

Fitting USB charge points under the armrests.

- Lighter socket - 2 quid ebay
- USB power adapter - 1 quid
- USB surface mount Sockets - 1 quid ebay

Splice it into the rear lighter socket cable, and fit the surface mounts into the rear of the tray and a much neater solution.

Though I did spot http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dual-USB-C...item540a058bb4 on ebay this morning which looks cool.

That's a rather cool little bit of kit.
Good for the boot.
Remove the current 12v socket and put that in its place.

Sorry to hear about your wife loosing her job

If your headlights are getting cloudy on the inside of the lenses (like mine are), it's quite a big job, but take them out and clean the inside... somehow

Retrain your wife as an Audi 8 cleaning specialist/detailer. I realise suggesting this to her may end badly, but if it doesn't, your car will always be sparkling.

Seriously though, best of luck to her in her search for employment. It can often end way better than what whet before

I want to take my headlights out but I can't cause some of the rivitnuts are spinning (I have another post on this issue.), once they are fixed I can take the lights off and get them looked at.

Haha. I don't think she'd like that idea. She never cleaned any of her cars. I either do it or she takes it to one of the hand car washes.

Here's one for the hard up...
Remove the rear seat squab and collect the money.
I had £1.90 under mine.

I did it because I had an airbag code due to tarnished connection under the seat - I cleaned all the connections with alcohol spray and vacuumed it out and wiped it down and cleaned the edges of the leather.
You should disconnect the battery first due to the airbags in the backrest.
You remove it by opening the door and bending/lifting up the outer edges of the squab unit untill that side pops out of the retainers, then do the other side and it should lift free.

I found an old tarnished 10p under the rear seat squab of my Ford Focus the other week.
It bought about a mouthful of beer later.

I once found an unopened, large bottle of perfume, with its receipt and still in a Heathrow duty free bag.
I did wonder what excuses the poor (probably) bloke had for his dearest

I worked as a car cleaner almost thirty years ago and the stuff we found in the trade ins was quite varied and often amusing. Along with the usual loose change and sweets I found women's underwear, a camera, earrings, condoms (unused) and cigarette lighters by the dozen.

Saved me a fortune at Christmas

Great sig tonupkid

Something that doesn't cost the earth, can be done in stages and is very effective is the LED swap over, first of there is the side lights, £3:00 will do those, but there is also the puddle lights, the door lights and the all of the interior bulbs, footwell etc... And each bulb can be bought individually and is a self fit. Once they are in the rewards of true white light for a couple of quid can put quite a smile on your face.

I have some already on mine and to say it makes a difference is an understatement. I did wonder if there was a thread already going on the LED upgrade, and links to each and every bulb for the D2's/D3's and a brief little write up on putting them in without braking any little retaining clips etc... If there is not one going already can I suggest one of us starts one. I for one would be using it to do a much of the car as possible.

Regards, Mark.

Model: MY 2008 08 3.0TDI Quattro Sport, Black on Black (Transporter Edition) Lowered 60mm on drop link bars. Alloys swapped out to RS6 style 20" x 9.5". It's got full tints on all windows, and has the black leather interior. Remapped by Elite Automotive in Cornwall, giving an increase output to 290bhp/450lbs.

Options: Keyless Entry & Start, Bluetooth Hands Free, Quad Zone Climate, 3 Spoke Sports Tiptronic Multi Function Steering Wheel, Black Leather Comfort Seats, AMI, Drivers & Passenger Electric Memory Seats, Auto Dimming Mirrors, Bi-Xenons.

Future Plans:
Selling my current Audi A8 Quattro Sport and replace is with a newer D4 Audi A8L with the 4.2V8 Twin Turbo setup once again it must be black. I'm looking for one with the options added where it has the rear recliing seats, with heated outers. Bose speakers minimum and B&O's if affordable. Rear and back door sun blinds prefered.

Planned Mods:
Upon the arrival of my A8L D4, I will be once again having the ECU remapped to a performance setting over economy. Rear Tints as dark as can go whilst also tinting the front windows with a medium tint. Once again I will be purchasing lowering links for the air ride suspension and setting it at 55mm lower when in comfort as my desire rideheight over standard. Alloys will be 21" however the one current most likly to be the next car already has a brand new set of 2016 S8Plus wheels on it.
