Key/remote case,shell

Morning
My key remote is a bit tired at this point.

Anyone who did change the case, where did you get it from???
I look at eBay and there is so many of them, but price puts me off, £4-£7, unless this is how much they cost.

Is there only one specific type or some of them with buttons rounded at the top and bottom instead of being square will fit as well??

And I assume you just swap the blank blade for the one from my original key?

You'll have to swap the internals and immob chip as well.
That's if the internals of our keys fit the cheap cases.


You could always wrap the key in wrap?

Could get one of these, since we don't really need to use the key.

I'd like to know why Audi never gave the A8 a desent key.
They gave the 8P and B7 models a nice updated key but gave us the same key design they had for the last 15 years.

I tried that one to try with our internals but it is very different.....
EDIT, the board won't fit, removed some plastic from the inside of case, but buttons don't even line up and to get closer, board would need cutting and has tracks in the way, what's more, this key isn't very attractive and is nearly 50% thicker.

Nice looking but internals won't fit judging by photos, but maybe could be programmed in if is 433MHz?

If you get a new shell for ours, be careful, there are two types that look the same but split in a different place.
There is a screw under the logo, then pull in half like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RZrQbZQ8yM and has a seperate glass-tube RFID chip in it, the later KESSY ones don't have a seperate RFID chip (I think they have two surface mounts on the PCB at 90˚ to each other) and the case split open by removing the screw under the logo flipping the battery cover off and removing 2 more screws.

I also *think* that the nice newer key with the chrome end is rechargebale and you have to plug it in the car from time to time, but maybe that's just on some models of Audi.

I think the best thing is eitehr get new 'fake' shells from China, or look into the new SMART key with the chrome end and see if you can programme a new or used one onto our cars.

I tried fitting my A4 B5 key internals in to the shell of a newer curved key and ended up spending a day cutting, modding, editing the tracks and relocating buttons on the board to get it to fit.
I got it to fit and semi work in the end but it was a mess.

The newer keyless, chrome keys are lovely.
They seem cheap enough on ebay but you need to find a friendly keycoder who's happy to have a play trying to get it coded.

Within a 10 mile radius it's £80 supplied, cut & programmed for KLINE models such as mk4 Golf, mk1 Leon, mk1 A3 etc. Newer CANBUS models such as mk5 Golf, mk2 Leon, mk2 A3/TT etc are £90. Any further & they have to take fuel & travelling time into account. So if you're asking for a price they need a location so they can work a price out taking into account fuel etc.
They also need to know model & year of car to confirm this style are compatible. If they're not compatible with your car & you still need a spare key They can do OEM remote's.

The Audi SMART key with the chrome end is quite sophisticated. It stores a log from the car so when you go for a service they pop it into a reader on the service desk and can see the mileage etc...fault codes...if any additional work may be required before they even look at the car.
