I wasn't too sure of what it was worth in the condition as I wasn't aware the cost of putting the bits correct... however I've how four offers from £3.5K to £6k as well as other asking for engines and panels or parts should I decide to break it.
I do think that 3.5k is a bit low and if you can get 6k for it you should go for it. In the meantime do stand by my offer of 4.5k which I think is fair. I have had a talk with wife and while she called me mad to spend 4.5k( my previous highest spent was 2.5k on S8 followed by 2.2k on A6) on the car but I have convinced her that it is decent deal and I do have a green light now. My offer would be a subject to inspection but I can promise that I would not try to knock off any more of the price. It would be the case of either I do buy at 4.5k or don't buy it at all. It is 265 miles from me to Cornwall so I would be investing considerable amount of time and money just to go and view it, probably taking public transport with a view of driving car home and if not then taking public transport back home.

Anyhow if you are interested in my offer let me know and I can come over on Friday/Saturday most of the weeks.

Perhaps i have been slightly harsh about the car but unfortunately i still feel the price will be seriously impacted given its history albeit the damage was minor.

Let me try to assist. Whilst i am not keyed in to the Cornish VAG scene, i have met a nice chap called Reggie (as had Adrian at AITP 13') and his buddy who are VAG enthusiasts over on Audi addict.net and set up a self service garage in Helston. However, i would suggest they may be able to assist at what i would assume to be a competitive price, or may know someone who can help should you decide to fix the bonnet catch issue before selling or indeed keep it yourself which would be my advice, otherwise you are likely going to take a hit unfortunately.

Model: MY 2008 08 3.0TDI Quattro Sport, Black on Black (Transporter Edition) Lowered 60mm on drop link bars. Alloys swapped out to RS6 style 20" x 9.5". It's got full tints on all windows, and has the black leather interior. Remapped by Elite Automotive in Cornwall, giving an increase output to 290bhp/450lbs.

Options: Keyless Entry & Start, Bluetooth Hands Free, Quad Zone Climate, 3 Spoke Sports Tiptronic Multi Function Steering Wheel, Black Leather Comfort Seats, AMI, Drivers & Passenger Electric Memory Seats, Auto Dimming Mirrors, Bi-Xenons.

Future Plans:
Selling my current Audi A8 Quattro Sport and replace is with a newer D4 Audi A8L with the 4.2V8 Twin Turbo setup once again it must be black. I'm looking for one with the options added where it has the rear recliing seats, with heated outers. Bose speakers minimum and B&O's if affordable. Rear and back door sun blinds prefered.

Planned Mods:
Upon the arrival of my A8L D4, I will be once again having the ECU remapped to a performance setting over economy. Rear Tints as dark as can go whilst also tinting the front windows with a medium tint. Once again I will be purchasing lowering links for the air ride suspension and setting it at 55mm lower when in comfort as my desire rideheight over standard. Alloys will be 21" however the one current most likly to be the next car already has a brand new set of 2016 S8Plus wheels on it.

Well I have just left the Audi Main Dealers and they have given their half an diagnosis and told me that they're also trapped out. Then have quoted me for booking it in 5 hours at £812:00 labour plus any parts that it might need on top. They tell me it can be done but you have to take off the bumper, which I don't know how they would do this when I assumed the the grill was screwed down on to the slam panel.

Regards,

Mark.

In fairness, the engine bay is designed to be secure. There is a lot of expensive componentry under there, so access through the locked and alarmed cabin is designed to be single entry point.

The Q7 for example has the bonnet release handle engineered into the drivers door shut so you have to have the drivers door opened before the handle can even be pulled, so security does seem to be a priority....

At this rate it would be cheaper to buy a 2nd hand bonnet in the right colour and just angle grind the old one off. Its the bumper trims / panels / mechanisms that will be the fiddly expensive bit to do !

By looking at photos of engine bays of D3 I don't think that removing grill will give you enough access to open the bonnet but Roberto might know better as he has a D3 so can look at it in more detail on his. I believe there should be non destructive way to get in I am thinking of going in from below with endoscope camera to investigate and then possibly access from below with custom home made tools to open.

Also going back to A8Doc comment about Audi dealer opening it by removing bumper in 40 min, I don't see how can you remove bumper in nondestructive way with a bonnet closed as there are some bolts that you need to undo under the bonnet to take bumper off. But then again I don't have another D3 here to investigate in flesh .

Hi Guys,

Arrived back from Hospital again today after a short stay and I have arranged for a guy, ex bodyshop to have a look at the weekend. He has mentioned cutting either the bonnet or the grill, and I did suggest the grill would be better due to paint matching, and plus from the information from this thread I'm not aware that the grill in mine is not the correct one for the 2008 August, car that it is. Roberto, as you have a d3 and also a grill that you are selling would you be able (or infact anyone here) be able to take some pictures of the slam panel and catches of a D3 and show where it is in relation to the grill please. Roberto if you could also PM me you best price on your Grill delivered to Cornwall. Then I have you there as the grill supply back up.

I have given consideration to selling her, but when driving it, the car drives every bit the amazing car it is, yeah so it has a few issues and a CAT D on a piece of paper somewhere, which has not relevance to how it drives. I love the car and to sell it, well I think I'd miss not driving an Audi A8.

Regards,

Mark.
