Default No wonder I had a bit of a wobble!

After 3 long days in the garage, my car is now back and my wallet has taken a bit of a hit!

One of the issues was a worsening wobble/shudder on braking, as well as pretty poor braking performance. New front pads, new front discs and a replacement suspension arm seem to have cured this, thankfully, but I was surprised (no, horrified!) at the terrible state of the inside of the discs and the battle-scarred suspension arm!

Photos for your amusement/horror.

I'm not surprised you had poor braking performance with discs looking like that! How old were the discs? My rear discs are looking like they've seen better days but I don't think they are that bad.

Next on my list is control arms. Can fight back on the D3 I’ve heard. Are they any easier on the D2?

It's wise to change them both sides at a time but they are not cheap
Plus you'll have to hope the steel bolts aren't fused to the soft aluminium upright strut. I had to leave mine soaked with some specialist WD40 for 24 hours before the bolt even considered moving.

Mine were picked up by the mot recently! Upper control arms. Not sure should I go for TRW or lemforder ones? TRW ones are slightly cheaper

I've noticed that recently ECP have offered their Starline branded ones with a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty, so that may be worth considering with the state of the roads - could end up getting a new set every 2-2.5 years under their warranty, just a thought!

http://www.iaaf.co.uk/news-item/star...e-for-starline

For example -
Starline Suspension Arm (Front Axle Left Upper Front) £57.99 versus TRW at £116.99 and over the Bank Holiday Weekend if you use the code "MAY75" you would get 35% extra off that so £37.69 including VAT.

the MAY75 discounts apply right through til Monday night over this weekend

Got your money's worth out of those discs Jim!
Worn out, or faulty?

FCPEuro - lifetime in-house warranty.
Supply several brands, mostly reasonable on the quality front. Such as Meyle HD, TRW, Loemforder.
Competitive freight (from US - Connecticut)

Anyone used starline before? Fair enough you have 3 year warranty but to change control arms aren’t cheap labour wise, so is it worth it...?

I bought cheap control arms once.
Only once.

I don't buy into the whole "only buy TRW or Loemforder" debate, and will pick and choose my aftermarket brands (such as Meyle). But then I do my own labouring, so I can afford to put my money where my mouth is.

If I was paying for labour, I would definately buy TRW or Loemforder, as they're a known quantity.
