I have a 2001 model and it's on the left. If you need to replace yours, I've written a guide on how to do it. You can find it here.

You should be able to, but I didn't fancy trying to wire up an alarm module without a plug, so searched the scrapyards for one with the correct plug. The part number is 1K0951605D if you have to buy it online.
