No air
My car has been returned from a service by an independent - I am sure it's a coincidence - and I am getting no air from the climate control.
The car has had very little use over the last couple of weeks as there was a delay in he supply of a remanufactured front brake caliper. The fan is working, the indicator LEDs illuminate on the climate control module in Auto, or any of the vent positions, but no airflow. I cannot hear any noise from the interior flaps, so I am guessing it may be a stuck flap motor? Would any one care to point to a thread for this issue as I suspect I am not the first to suffer this issue. TIA |

Have you tried forcing the fan to full speed? And making sure they didn't shut the vents? I was about to plug the laptop in once when I remembered the wife had driven the car, checked, and she'd closed the vents!

Hi PsYcHe,
Yes I tried all the obvious things; changing modes, putting the fan on full and checking all the vents were open. There's no air flow from any vent; windscreen, face-level or floor. No whirring from the flap motors. Nothing. The control module 'works' fine, with the LEDs in illuminating in the switches and the fan display moving up and down (ad changing the speed of the fan), but no air flow. I have not asked if the battery was disconnected during the service. I have VCDS, so I will perform a scan to see if there are any error codes with the HVAC control unit. I would like to use the flap procedure in VCDS, but thus far cannot find the procedure; does any have a link? |

If you goto the HVAC module in VCDS drop into the Output test and you should be able to cycle through the flaps to test they operate.

Thanks for the tip; I will run that test.
I have interrogated the controller with VCDS and there are two differing error codes: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Address 08: Auto HVAC Labels: 4D0-820-043-MYX.lbl Control Module Part Number: 4D0 820 043 Q Component and/or Version: A8-Klimavollautomat D13 Software Coding: 00081 Work Shop Code: WSC 02313 VCID: 2A5BE423D60AF24EEA7-2566 1 Fault Found: 00716 - Air recirculation Flap Positioning Motor (V113) 41-00 - Blocked or No Voltage -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Address 08: Auto HVAC Labels: 4D0-820-043-MYX.lbl Control Module Part Number: 4D0 820 043 Q Component and/or Version: A8-Klimavollautomat D13 Software Coding: 00081 Work Shop Code: WSC 02313 VCID: 2A5BE423D60AF24EEA7-2566 1 Fault Found: 00716 - Air recirculation Flap Positioning Motor (V113) 41-10 - Blocked or No Voltage - Intermittent -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After removing the air intake grille, I can see the air recirculation flap move, albeit lethargically. Does it close completely or is it open slightly? |

There are two recirculation motors, the one in the engine bay and another inside the car.
The one in the engine bay should open fully if you select HI or LO on the climate display otherwise it will only open as far as it needs to.

Take a look at THIS THREAD HERE as it seems to be a common culprit
