Default D3 4.2 miss fire camshaft ajust bank 2

Just wandering if any one can help me my d3 has developed a missfire and also when in D it seems to shudder and whines. Ie the gear box dose not feel smooth anymore and it seems to hard shift/hesitate to change under load. ?

Ive changed the cam shaft position sensor only cost me 30 quid but engine light is still on and started flashing on my drive home last night. Any help would be great as im using this for work every day and have to cover 170 miles a day.

thanks

Hi
Have you changed the engine coil head on the misfiring cylinder?? (petrol engines)

I've had that issue. Connected VCDS, misfire detected on cylinder 6 and 8, went to Audi, bought couple of them, £38/each, changed it and job done, car felt like new again.

Have you got VCDS??

Well the thing is its random multipal misfiring rather than consistantly the same cylinders.
Also the cam ajustment bank 2 problem makes me believe its something other than coil packs ? :s

I'm not that good mechanic, more electronic side, but I'll ask any way only because I've had something similar with the camshaft sensor.

This wasnt related to misfiring. Do you get a weird knocking noise when starting up the engine after lets say at least 8 hours??

I was getting it and after changing both camshaft (chain) tensioners (one at the back of the engine cylinder 1-4 and one at the front of the engine cylinder 5-8) the sensor stopped getting the wrong readings, but it never caused a misfire.

Maybe there is an issue between the fuel line and the actual engine with the fuel distribution hence the random misfire.

That is very possible, but just like that??, they don't jump for example one or two tooths just like that unless it was taken out and put back wrongly?!?!?
BUT i might be completely wrong

Could be that the tensioner has failed, or not been put on properly at the last swap and the cog on that side has jumped. Need to get someone to look at it I suppose.

Though, with you having other electrical gremlins, check for water, etc. everywhere, or even the battery being tired.

If it's a tensioner which lost its tension then chain will be loose slightly.
So in the morning before you start the car, open your bonnet and start the engine. Now during the start up you will hear a knocking noise for a second or 2 at the most, thats how we determined it is a tensioner. But also to be double sure I've had one guy listening back of the engine on the left side, and one at the front of the engine right hand side.
The chain and tensioner and chain is just behind the metal cover so its kind of easy to determine if it is a tensioner or not.
And if it is a tensioner then camshaft is out of position slightly.
