So, FINALLY I got round to tackling these screws which on many A8s just don't want to unscrew.

Looked across the globe for different solutions but went my own way.

Drilled the heads off, large bit to shave the head of completely, necessary.
Don't worry, plastic isn't that fragile as you may think, its a very tough and flexible piece.

Used some PlastixRX or something, plastic/headlight polish, to clean the lenses, compare one side to another

Got pair of these from MyLitCo - £10-£12

I use a Bosch glue gun as it gives out more heat if you leave it good 10-15min on the stand, then glue comes out almost like a thick soup, fills in the holes and cracks nicely.

I chipped off the plastic screw socket completely, finished edges on both sides with stanley knife.

Filled the holes over with hot glue.
Let it cool for 10-15min, cold day in the garage with no heating

Shaved off the extra glue with a sharp olfa blade, slice by slice until blade glides on top the lens surface shaving off last excess of glue.

Used very strong double sided foam strips which I got with my number plates.
Can use no more nails tape, from B&Q, red one.

I have just fitted them to my number plate lights,3 smd chips with finned heat sincs on the top,what a difference they look amazing
I have also just fitted a Hid kit ( I thought all A8's had Hid's ?? How wrong I was ) upgraded the main beam bulbs to H7 osram ultra 5000k going to put the same in the fog lights,I have just got replacement side light bulbs 13 smd chips,company sent the wrong ones hence they were not fitted at the same time as the Hid's,what a nightmare of a job as well,had to buy a pet snake to get in and replace them
Managed to do it by removing air box and un doing the power steering reservoir,tight but manageable

Not sure exactly what you've fitted to your headlamps, but do you have auto levelling and headlamp wash and bulbs matched to the lens/reflector type? If not it's a likely MOT fail.
The only "proper" way with HID's is to fit all the OEM kit, headlamp units, etc. etc.

I tried "bluer" main-beam bulbs on my old PF S8 which only had HID dipped beams, but they were still pretty rubbish.

As for front fog lights, there's a very good reason why they optionally can legally be yellow. The longer wavelengths actually penetrate fog better, the higher the colour temperature the worse they are due to extra back scatter. So I would avoid bluer bulbs there.

I have the washers not sure about the self levelling,got projector lights with the correct projector light hid kit for projector light units these are 6000k not sure what oem colour temp Hid's are I would have thought around 5 - 6000 k
Main beam bulbs are just a brighter white
We will see about the mot when it's due if need be I will put the original bulbs back in

The beam pattern will be what they really look at. Not sure they can tell if you have levelling anyway.
OEM are usually around 4300K I think, best for optimum light output.

When I was looking at putting after market Hid's in my car I did a little research and found an article where a man had wanted to do the same thing so he had found an article on a government website about the fitting of after market Hid's
He said he had found the mot failure would be Hid's fitted where you could see the bulb through the headlamp lens as apparently this alters the beam pattern
The other thing was if a car is fitted with oem Hid's it must have self levelling and washers and they must work
If they are fitted as an after market addition the bulbs must be behind the projector lens and if fitted with the levelling and washers they also must work,if these are not fitted then they will not affect the mot because they are not fitted to test ?
A mate of mine has just put them in his A6 with normal light lenses and side by side his is totally different to mine and will be a mot failure
Please correct me if iam wrong ?

The whole area is very debatable and MOT rules are being tightened up all the time.
A good mate of mine that I should see tomorrow is an MOT tester (not his main job, but still officially qualified and does it occasionally) so I'll try to ask him.

Also I thought as the A8's are a prestige car and as long as they are not ridiculously bright blue like some you see on the roads are,they might not get questioned on an mot as like I thought all A8's had them fitted as standard
I find it hard to believe Audi fit led lights on the A8 then put yellow halogen bulbs in the headlights madness surely on a car like that they should be standard ?

Thanks for this. Tried getting my lenses off last weekend but just ended up rounding one of the screws off. They are well seized. So looks like I'll have to drill them out.
