I've tried turning the heater on with ignition off trick a couple of times now during the current cold snap (bit cold in my dressing gown) fans start to blow but the Webasto does not fire up. No relevant faults in VCDS.
Back to the drawing board, but I don't think it is worth the expense and trouble to do the full update.

Hi There,

Well, with a good light and a magnet on a stick tool you can get the two nuts off and tilt the valve mechanism up, then undo the two long screws holding the motor on and then gently pop it off and with only minor amounts of swearing remove the electrical connector while seeing how THIS variant out of billions actually undoes!

Getting it back on shouldn't be hard, but getting the valve back in the car could be fun!

However apart from CAN this be done, I've achived little. Using a battery and a couple of stiff wires spaced and taped to access the pins and both motors spin!!!

*DING DING*
Round two....

Hi There,

Things were going pretty well swapping the valve out. A bit of grease on the plastic hose ends meant slipping the hoses back on wasn't too bad, if a bit cramped. Then i came to remount the motor back on and whilst it's reasonable to remove it by tilting the valve up, getting the bottom screw in the hole to line up and work was a nightmare. I ended up removing some of the hoses again to get it on....So i'd be careful in trying to swap just the motor!

Irritatingly I grabbed the old one without the bracket on it and then later realised, so i need to go back in and sort out (Ran out of time last night).

Interestingly i've got good heat now out of the drivers vent and the passengers centre vent, but not the drivers centre vent. Don't know if the old motor is weaker or if i've still an issue?

What’s the heat like on different positions ....screen / feet and so on , if the heats good at the vents this means the matrixes are getting water so your fault sounds more like blend doors not opening / closing off

Hi There,

Running output tests in VCDS, everything seems to move and do something. The heat isn't amazingly consistent and tends to take a while to come through. One of the vents. The middle driver one always seems to blow cold.
From the pipes i'm guessing that there are two matrix's and i'm thinking one is reasonable and the other isn't!

Irritatingly work is getting in the way with having another proper play, but i'm tempted to try flushing the matrix's when i get a chance....It's either that or the pump is weak (though i've exploded the old set and it doesn't seem the biggest water mover anyway). I'd think it odd that both valve sets/solenoids would have the same issue (as i'd get heat on some vents but not others, though it was on the pathetic and taking ages side)

Oh dear - have you seen the setting in SETUP where you can change the Centre vent to be cooler or warmer than the set temp? Just checking the dial is centred? Does it get hotter if you turn this up?

Sorry to hear that - I have had my A8 so long I have forgotten more than I remember about my setups.
When I do this and turn up to HI + HI, the icon flashes in the digital clock in the instrument cluster and webasto fires up (as long as fuel light not on).
If yours doesn't do this, it must be an Adapation or two in VCDS's HVAC....
My Adaptations are below, I think channel 16 and 19 are crucial.

Channel -- Value -- Function

01 8= <4˚ aux heat
02 8= <4˚ aux heat
03 0= shutoff at full throttle disabled
06 0= intelligent aux heat/vent
07 1= shut off time aux when ign off
08 1= voice recognition quiet mode
16 1= activate aux heater if required for residual heat function
18 0= shut off when energy manager says battery is low
19 0= use aux heater when required by heater demand
20 1= rear heated seats not switched off after 10 mins
21 1= add another menu line to MMI

Oh....if only the fix was that simple. Still always worth checking the settings. I tried with it turned to colder this morning. That didn't seem to make a difference either, but was worth a try!

OK so if you turn to HI and it comes out HOT at the other vents, the valves and pump must be OK, the heather matrix must be OK so must be flaps. You have tried the output tests, there is a flap position learning function somewhere in the VCDS, have you tried that? Could do with seeing a diagram on SSP or photos on google images of all the pipes, flaps and ducts.

Thanks for that Snap, I'm still trying to learn this VCDS thingy.
