Supposedly, I bought it from ebay and it was listed as from a 2008 FL so would have had MMI 3G.

When I google the part number it says FL.
e.g.
https://store.prestigemotorservices....-cluster-4e092...
Manufacturers Part Number: 4E0 920 951 J Donor Car: 2008 Audi A8 D3 FL Donor Car Engine Size: 3000 Donor Car Exterior Colour: Silver LX7W Donor Car ...

But I never actually saw it in the car.
It does have the digital speedo option if anyone knows if that was a FL feature.

Wasn't 3G from 2009 onwards (does it coincide with addition of driving aids? Or were they optional?)

My departed 4.2TDI was facelift, had digital speedo but MMI 2G (late 2007).

^^ yes I think 3G was from 2009 onwards but I am not 100%.

With that I assume on the very last 2009/2010 A8's had 3G.

Not sure if it was standard or optional though

The digital speedo came into the whole Audi range around 2007.

3G became available across the Premium Audi range around 2009, but was standard kit only on the A8 from this date. A6 for example you could buy 2G or 3G on the later C6's for a couple of years (just to make things more confusing.....!)

I dont doubt that a 2G cluster from a 2008 car would work happily on a 2006 car.

Whether a 3G one from 2009+ would, I'm not no sure. You'd have to check out part numbers to be sure.

I thought 3G MMI came in with the 2nd facelift with the later tail lights, ectangular front fogs and indicators in the mirrors - is this not always the case?

Nope, not the case....

Look at Ollies 57 plate car he just sold for a great example.... Facelift with all those features you mention, but 2G.

3G was a very separate, and quite subtle upgrade late on in the D3 lifespan....

Sorry for the dated thread, but I ended up looking at this to try and find out how I get the digital speedo displayed between the clocks and after reading, I'm still at a loss as my car is 2008 FL and my clocks are I'm presuming wide - 4E0 920 951 J, but I do not see an option for enabling digital speedo anywhere. Please can anyone advise.

On the wiper stalk, there is a button on the under side. Pressing it toggles through the various displays, one will be digital speedo.

If you've got an adaptive cruise widescreen cluster then you wont get the digital speedo as well as apparently it needs to be able to use a "vacant" screen display option to show the distance between vehicles you've selected and the digital speedo was the one they chose to replace.

I know this because I've already replaced my cluster with an adaptive cruise one and had the same question as to why it had disappeared!

Thanks for that. I must have pressed this before and when I saw it didn't seem to do anything I never went back to it - two presses brings up the digital speedo. Is there meant to be some function to the first press?
