Default Tyre sizes

A quick question....

Whilst searching last week for new tyres using the 'insert your reg' function many online retailer use, they all informed me my car was 265/35/20.
However whilst reviewing an Audi tech doc last night I noticed Audi published the figures 275/35/20.

How so? And does that mean the rims would actually take a wider tyre......?

I found the same thing. My car runs the 275 width, although the fuel flap lists the 265 size. They were fitted by the previous owner, so I can't compare with the 265 size.

There's more choice in that size and fractionally more rubber too, which should make for a slightly more comfortable ride.

I found I rubbed the front inner wings with the 275 profile on mine. So I switched back to 265's

If you change tyre sizes, check with insurer, as some deem it a notifiable modification.

Looking at your picture, you seem to have the wheels with part number 4E0 601 025 BD.

This wheel has an ETR of 45 and is 9J x 20H. In the Audi Wheel and Tyre Guide, there are 6 '9J x20H' wheels; 4 have ETR of 46 and 2 have ETR of 45. [ETR is the hub offset].

Audi tyre sizes for them are:
9J x 20H - ETR 46 - 275/35 R20
9J x 20H - ETR 45 - 265/35 R20

Presumably to allow for prevention of 'rub against the arch' for the ETR 45s

275-35-20 will be fine i use these with ET35 wheels
its only about 7mm difference in height
and 10mm width
and they look better, 265's always looked a bit stretched for me
Plus the 275,s are cheaper
win win

You can check this easily compared to your current wheels - just put the two sizes into http://www.willtheyfit.com and then see how much additional poke on the tyres there is plus any difference in total diameter etc. Then compare the differences stated against where your current tyres are . . . . And voila!

Just to add to this for anyone else...

I just fitted 275/35/20 and they are perfectly fine, attached is a pic of the difference between 265 and 275 running 35 on 20s
