Anyone here done this? I've got James' S8 with the red US rear lights and would like to find the right bulbs to make them flash amber. So, if you know a source and can tell me if I need green or yellow, that would be much appreciated

Sorry for dragging up a really old thread, but it's the only one I could find regarding the red US spec tail lights.

Did anyone find a set of bulbs that enabled the indicators to flash amber in the red US spec outer lenses?

I'm thinking about getting some red US lights but don't fancy the idea of being illegal.
I'm hoping that in the last 8 years, someone worked it out

I remember Ricky D posting about this very subject, as he's close to me geographically.
Take a look at this forum post I dug up:

I tried a load of different bulbs (LED and standard filament bulbs) but nothing (green, yellow, orange ....) gave the right colour. I had a couple of MOT advisories and a failure, then gave up and went back to standard. I also had issues with other drivers nor recognising the signal, resulting in numerous friendly(?) beeps and waves from them!

I never managed to get anything to work as a strong amber so theyíve just been left as mainly red.

Iíve followed the car when the Mrs is driving and itís very clear when itís indicating. I had one person in nearly 3 years mention that they couldnít tell I had my indicator on. I asked her if she could see the flashing light? She said yes, so I said thatís the indicator for the direction Iím intending to go.

I think my car has so much presence (slammed, loud and bling bling rims) that people usually notice it compared to other cars and accept itís a bit different and can tell Iím indicating.

Pah, who cares about the indicator colour when the car looks and sounds so good!

I would say it's technically impossible to make a red-filtered light appear amber. The filter appears red because it passes red light and blocks all other colours. Even pure white light, which contains every colour of the rainbow, will be reduced to red after passing through the filter, so I don't see how individual colours will behave any differently. However, it might be possible to 'overwhelm' the filter with a very bright amber LED and achieve a little 'amber-ness' (ambernicity?).

Hi Ricky

Those videos convinced me that the car looks great with the lights and to me at least if you hadn't told me anything I would say that the indicator lights in the videos looked stock/original.
I would not have noticed that they were redder than they should be.

So, apart from the light lenses themselves, what extras (wires, holders, bulbs etc.) did you end up buying and using to get where you are today?
