Default Strange performance

Hi Everyone. I sold my 2000 D2 4.2 petrol 70K in the summer when I bought a 2010 D3 4.2 petrol. It has a strange performance quirk which perhaps someone could explain please.

If I accelerate from rest gently, such as when sequencing into a roundabout, there seems to be a hesitation which I correct with a slight increase on the accelerator pedal. The gears will have moved from 1 to 2 (maybe 3). There is then a sharp, sudden acceleration which has caught me (and my passengers) unaware a few times.

Harrogate Audi and now Leeds Audi have found no fault even though I have demonstrated the problem. It only occurs under gentle acceleration.

Does anyone have any ideas please?

I guess its under Warranty. Go to York Audi. I wouldnt trust either Leeds or Harrogate Audi with anything even slightly out of the straight forward and ordinary, and even then, I'd still take it York Audi as they've always been pretty hot at fixing oddities.

See if you can find anybody with VAGCOM and get a throttle body alignment done (less than 5 mins), dealer could do it but would rob you blind.

Just a thought, has the car had a gearbox fluid change / level check ?, may be the torque converter lock-up sticking.

Hi Everyone. Been away/ill but back on the trail of the problem: Not very successful. York could find nothing significant in January but Dave Walton found quite a bit so I returned it to York. They have had it for four weeks and it looks like they want me to have it back on Tuesday after Audi UK have pronounced that the vibration at various RPM is normal! I will see what it is like on Tuesday.........and let you know.

Default It goes on

Lincoln have given me a RS5 to play with while they investigate my A8. After a week, they have found a serious problem with the gearbox. They are trying to find out how/why. It is the first time anyone from Audi has admitted that there is a problem - at last. Well done Lincoln.

Default And Finally....

After rejecting my 2010 A8 last September , Lincoln Audi have kept me in temporary cars (RS5, A7 3.0 TFSI) until I spotted a 2012 4.2 Petrol Exec in Reading in March It was the first correct spec car I had seen and Lincoln bought it for me as a direct replacement for mine! Hats off to them for looking after me so well. I collected the new one two weeks ago and it runs sooooo much better.

A happy A8er again.
