Not to be confused with Depreciation.

In several fields, deprecation is the discouragement of use of some feature, design or practice; typically because it has been superseded or is no longer considered safe – but without completely removing it or prohibiting its use

2003 D2 FL S8. Irish Green Pearl/Beige. Solar sunroof, auto-dim mirrors, electric rear seat functions, ski hatch retrofit; extended leather. Aftermarket DVB-T, reversing camera and full XCarlink (Bluetooth etc.).
2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Thanks all, you are no help at all
Oh well things have progressed and i have a couple of options to consider lets see what comes up over the next few days. Just been offered a matt silver one ...floret silver...doesnt do it for me i am old fashioned and like shiny cars.

On the depreciation front most of these "types" of car depreciate like the clappers even Porsches i have had one. i just like big comfy saloons i guess. You pays your money and takes your choice. But they appear to have a bit of a deal on them if you can find a dealer with stock or one heading their way. I never think of my daily motor as an investment i just take the view i pay to drive a certain type of motor and whoever gets it three years down the road will get a cracker as I do look after them.
Also this new tax change comes in from 1st april so the drivers of these motors will get whacked again to help fund the treasury .....won't be used for filling in the potholes, even Teslas will be caught in the new value added car tax. All seems to fly in the face of the previous systems and now penalise people for spending their hard earned cash
Anyway i will keep updating this thread on what i get offered, i am genuinely sad to posibly say goodbye to my v8d though its a truly stunning car and after a year of owning her she hasnt missed a beat or wanted for an ad blue fill up
As George Best once said
'I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered".

True - and in the spirit of continuing to send this thread off at tangents , I'll just leave this George Best clip here - for those who haven't seen the movie yet:

Morning Chaps
Quick update
Your best efforts to put me off failed and the S8 is due for delivery on the 1st March before these sodding new tax rules add to the already large running costs
Mythos Black and Black leather. No frills but an absolutely stonking deal which made the used motors around look expensive and pointless
I know folks will point out depreciation running costs and possibly the planet and so on and I fully accept those arguments, after all I have managed Investments for the last 30 years and would never recommend a motor unless it's a decent classic...
But like you lads I work hard (imho) and it is a motor I have always promised myself since the first D2 S8, when I was driving my 80 sport So along comes a decent opportunity and come March the 1st I will be wearing one hell of a large grin!

I will be sad to let the 4.2 sport go though she is one of the best motors I have had the pleasure of owning, faultless and quietly delivers everything you need and still gives mid to late 30's on a run. Someone will get a decent motor to as she has been cherished and looked after much like my other 8's this will be my fourth now

Pictures and stuff to follow when I pick her up
Cheers Glyn

It's the only sound basis upon which one can justify these cars

Can't wait now the decision is made next week will no doubt go very slowly!
Might go out and give the 8 a wash off as this week has been a mucky one on the roads.
I promise I'll try and make a meet up when I have the new beastie
