Default How Good are the Halogens?

Am always surprised how few Audi cars have Xenon (was it a very expensive option?!) almost all BMW's seem to have them!...anyway if the halogens are a bit poor what's the best bulb replacement to light up the dark night?

Yeah not a cheap option if it wasn't standard - and for some reason many Audi buyers of new cars weren't so keen to splash on options as BMW owners. Another option you find a lot less in audis is nav

I've found Philips X-treme vision +100% bulbs work really well on the projectors fitted to our a6. Can be picked up on eBay from a shop called upgrade bulbs for beer tokens a pair. Fitted them to the s8 front fogs and high beam assist as they're such a cheap way to improve light output

I never really found a good upgrade bulb for my old c5 a6 ........on main beam they were great but on dip they were terrible thankfully my rs6 has xenons which are far superior

Luckily my S8 has Xenon dipped....
(though as noted in another thread the halogen main beam is not good in comparison)

On my Focus, which given the Mk1 headlight design has truly appalling dipped & main beams with the OEM bulbs, I've found Osram Nightbreaker and more recently Ring Xenon +120% work very well.

2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

The bi-xenon main beams are appalling
They just scatter the light in a rather diffused fashion rather than focus it down the road.

i used the halfords +120 for an upgrade on the D2 as it only had dipped as a xenon main beam was halogen and with the above upgrade and a slight tinker with the lighting level it was spot on very good bulbs
