Default Drilling Into The Boot

I love it when people drill holes into the bodywork to fit something back cause they can't be bothered or don't have the proper bolts needed to secure something back correctly.

Taking my number plate lights out to replace the bulbs (They broke, new ones on order) and noticed two big philips screws looking at me.

Assumed (slightly hoping) there was a 2nd set of bolts to secure the number plate holder on but now. They drilled a hole.

While there, I stripped it all down and cleaned it.

Refitted with some proper bolts from the A4.

Why do people do this?
Surely its more work getting a drill, drilling the boot, finding some screws and screwing them in than getting some 10mm bolts?

its very common, I've yet to see a car with the plate affixed using the correct holes.

Thanks god I haven't suffered from anything like that.
I've had original plastic bolts attaching pate using original fixing points.

But since I got the private plate I scrapped this idea because I personally hate screws, bolts, frames etc.

My plate is fixed by a seriously strong double sided tape, no frame, no screws, just a nice plane plate stuck onto the paintwork.

Looks very tidy without unnecessary plastics, screws, dealer's phone numbers etc
I like it

They just use self tapping screws, 1 go with and they are in, no need to to align holes or anything. Seen it so many times and actually in action as it's done as well.

I always get my plates from http://www.demonplates.com/

First class service, quality is absolutely superb and even kit is a very good quality for all applications. I used their double sided foam strip, bloody strong, but you can get either red or blue No More Nails double sided foam strips, very strong.

And it looks like this, no nails no screws, no plastic caps there where you don't want them to be, no drilling and always level

Be careful with those online "show plates". They are in fact illegal as they don't bear the embossed postal code of the manufacturer/provider. I think that can only be done for plates that you have legally provided ID to buy in person (ie buy over the counter with car docs and passport/driving licence). Probably a moot point really, but you may get some pedantic cop that may do you for it if they notice, especially with illegal character spacing too....

This is the only reason why there is no post code as I asked for two spaces instead of one, but still had to provide id etc, they are very strict.
I've got legal plate in the boot together with more double sided sticky stripes
