Default Marty McFly etc...

Great Delorean documentary on BBC 2 right now, putting the car in the context of when and where it was made. Good stuff.

Ironically sold a forklift today to Linamar (Montupet) who occupy the old Delorean site in Dunmurry - they make automotive aluminum castings for JLR/PSA group.

Moving forward they are going to make monocoque one piece aluminum chassis for the next gen electric cars. JLR are going to make the chassis/floorpan from aluminum so they can put more batteries in to increase range

I happened upon this. Was really interesting and well produced too. Had never really appreciated the political connotations before. Good watch indeed

"EXCEPT NORTHERN IRELAND & NORTHERN IRELAND HD" - What does that tell you about the programme that it isn't being shown in NI. Very odd.

Apart from what everyone else knows about the cars, the only story I heard about the factory was the sheer number of parts that went over the fence.

That is odd - there's quite a bit of reference in this programme to the troubles, as well as UK politics at the time, but nothing that I could see that was too inflammatory, other than perhaps a few ill-informed historical remarks about the "northern part of Ireland"

Been done before...… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIuo0KIqD_E

And I recall working as a student (holiday job) in a RR Aero engine factory in the late sixties.
The titanium strips that certain small fan blades were initially cut from would fold nicely to make a toast rack - everyone had one at home!
The afternoon entertainment was usually a break while they did a test firing of an RB211 out the back.

2003 D2 FL S8. Irish Green Pearl/Beige. Solar sunroof, auto-dim mirrors, electric rear seat functions, ski hatch retrofit; extended leather. Aftermarket DVB-T, reversing camera and full XCarlink (Bluetooth etc.).
2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!
