Default aftermarket radio

ok some may have read the last thread on the oem upgrade of which i had no joy as i dont have bose.
the car is a pf 97 a8.
it had the basic radio in but i had no conectivity in the modern day. so i bought a kenwood kdc 200ub to go in its place.
not the back of my old set all the speaker pins were there so in theory the new kenwood set should use all the pins but i can only get sound through front speakers no rear.

anyone know what the reason may be out of thr many ti pick from

I'm not that familiar with the PF, however if it's anything like the A4 of the same era it may have active rear speakers which are driven from the speaker wires (rather than pre-outs) but which need a power-on signal like an amp. Not sure what colour that will be but it would need to go to the blue/white wire on the head unit. I'll see if I can find the wiring diagram later

Ok so it looks like the active rear speakers are driven from a small yellow connector on the back of the head unit - this is usually part of a block of three small ones which clip together making up a single long one. If you don't have this connector then I think you must have the fully passive system in which the rear speakers are driven from the head unit as you expected. If that is the case I'm not sure why you wouldn't have any output from them.

I think rear speakers will lack volume with that kit if it uses line out from headunit as aftermarket radios have 1.5V line out but Audi amps are for 3.5V Line input. There are other kits that use speaker level output from headunit through resistors but in my expierence they are not great for sound quality.

The Kenwood KDC-200UB has 2.5V pre-out so might be ok
