Default Gearbox fluid change

Has anyone done an ATF and filter change on a 3.0TDI?

I'm assuming it's the ZF box in the 3.0TDi too. I'd contact Mackies in Glasgow for a price.

I've been doing Mercedes and Range Rover ATF fluid changes myself for years now, no point changing the habit of a lifetime and spending my hard earned on labour charges when I could be spending it on other items.

I'm guessing the best filters will be from Audi, unless anyone can advise otherwise.

Does anyone know the specification of the ATF?

I priced up parts for my d2 direct from zf and filter is easiest direct from Audi and cheaper than zf specialists too

Oil could be cheaper in bulk if the same zf fluid will work for more than 1 car as they sell by the drum. Otherwise by the litre from Audi

If you can find the plate on the box with zf build details then it's easy to find the info online looking at the zf USA site, or call their uk offices. They were very helpful with info for the d2

I plan to do mine. It was done before by the dealer a year or so ago with the later green fluid (ZF Lifeguard 8). Before that there was blue and before that yellow (what mine had from factory).

The fluid is made by Shell, but not marketed by them, only available through Audi, ZF, BMW etc...

Find your transmission, then cross-ref the fluid in the second link.

I have bought this oil for the diffs./final drive.

Here is my service history, they used G060162

Thanks snapdragon, the 'can of worms' syndrome opens when you start trying to save a few shillings of ATF by not buying from the dealer.

I have a Range Rover which I changed the ATF, the dealer charges around £16 per litre for the ATF but with a little research I managed to obtain a 20 litre drum for just under £60 which will allow me a few oil changes.

I might do a 'How to' when I am changing the ATF. That should help others and save them paying over the odds for garages to carry out the work

audipages.com has a procedure for the D2 gearbox which is very similar... I could also see what ETKA has as a procedure for it.

Can't get the damn thing to create a PDF at the minute, but the procedure seems to be the same as the audipages.com one, just make sure you get the correct bits for yours. Seems to be about 8-9l of ATF in there.
