Default a8 d2 how easy to steal

i was just wondering how easy it is for a thief to break into a d2 a8 and how difficult it is for one to be stolen without the keys.weather it is the old infra red key or new rf key.

Think Ben said it took them 20 minutes to break my window according to CCTV on the S8. I still haven't watched the CCTV footage.

There is footage on the tinternet somewhere of someone trying to brake the side windows, they affectively go all gooey like a windscreen does making it quite tough to get in.

I suppose it would all be down to who's steeling it. I've heard of guys using a tipper truck and hiab picking the whole car up and dropping it in the back and driving off with it.
Shotgun to the face i'd give them the keys.

Why you thinking of stealing one?

no im not looking to steal one i read a article in the paper about car theives and how they steal cars and what they get paid for them and which ones are popular to steal. Got me thinking if they had to try if it was possible for them the pick to door lock and stop the alarm ,swop the computer box and get it started.or if they would battle

Getting in isnt that hard if you hit it with something big enough.

To my knowledge though, getting in without the alarm going off is pretty impossible.

Getting it move, ideally youd get it out of Park into Neutral, which is another challenge without the key.

Getting it to start without a key, Prefacelift could be done quite a lot easier than the facelift, but both would need a decent amount of time to do it.

Frankly, I'd break in, silence the alarm, get it in neautral and tow it away somewhere I could work on it, hoping it doesnt have a live tracker subscription....

Its sad someone managed to take Amars, but I guess on a deserted industrial estate they had the time. On residential property I struggle to think it'd be worth trying.

Way easier to rob the occupants for the keys I guess, which is what seems to happen now....

Either way, an S8 will be considerably more secure than most other motors out there which should prove easier pickings...

Thieves have key bits like you have HEX or Torx bits, they put in key bit and brake open door lock, this disables alarm just like if you opened with key if your fob stopped working, same goes for ignition key which would disable gear lever lock, so far no more then 30 sec. I had somebody trying to steal A6 back in Latvia but I disrupted them and they left a key bit behind, they had damaged door lock cylinder and after it you could unlock door with anything like a screwdriver. For starting engine they either need programmable transponder to fool the immo that correct key is present, this is easier with older fixed code immo's a bit more problematic with variablecode, or a ECU swap with the one with immo off or reflash ECU with software that has immo disabled. Either case it should not take more then 5-10 min.

Thieves already know the specifics and there is nothing wrong educating general public. Seeing that it is quite easy on standard car might result in somebody having additional security features fitted and saving their motor from being stolen. But feel free to delete if you think it's for the best.

i have no intention of helping would be thieves with info so if we need to delete this than we should remove it, its just that the link above got me thinking of if i need to add addition security to my car or if it is harder to steal than the average car and i dont need to worry.i dont like the idea that some chop with sharpened piece of metal can come take my car.
would be pretty cool if i could have one of those transporter style pin pad ignition locks
