Living in SA I also read the above article and it goes in to a detailed explanation
of the whole Industry and It is an Industry in my parts....

The latest is the remote jamming method and Business is Good at the moment..

I do however feel that the 8's are less easy to Steal.... But are more Desirable..
Just for a little more Peace of mind I will be fitting a Tracker shortly...

And I can't decide wether I want the Tracker more for keeping an eye on The S whilst in the hands of the Workshops that work on her.... Or for the Theft Angle...

far as I'm aware nearly all car theft now is through breaking into house/office/etc and stealing the keys.

Houses are far easier to break into than most modern cars.

i have no intention of helping would be thieves with info so if we need to delete this than we should remove it, its just that the link above got me thinking of if i need to add addition security to my car or if it is harder to steal than the average car and i dont need to worry.i dont like the idea that some chop with sharpened piece of metal can come take my car.
would be pretty cool if i could have one of those transporter style pin pad ignition locks
The tool left in my A6 looked like professionally mass-produced with no marks of DIY modifying. It was 10mm hex drive with a blade like key. All the same grey color with no modifying marks on it.

Like this spline bit just with a blade in place of splines:

So basically a plain screwdriver hex bit? Or longer?

Here I do believe stealing keys is the preferred option for most tea-leaves unless the car pre-dates immobiliser technology

No specialist kit required and less likely to get banged up if stopped in the street by plod as difficult to prove they're going equipped....

It was just like a blank key blade

You could disconnect the battery every night that would give them a surprise.
Or one of those steering wheel locks.
I thought about making a gas pedal lock with a wedge of wood and some sort of padlock, that would give them a nice surprise.

Hidden switches work well. Hercon( I think that's what they are called) switches hidden under any surface work well. Normally it is open but if you put magnet near it it closes. You just need to know where it is and put a small magnet next to it. Without it -no start.

One of my old mk2 cortinas had a switch hidden under the rear seat that you could reach from the drivers seat that earthed the lt side of the coil so it wouldn't start but would crank all day long - saved it from being stolen twice when I lived in birmingham and came back to find both physical locks overcome and the door open/ignition on....
