Default Odd Noise

Hi Guys,

Been running arround in my S8 for a while and things have been reasonably fine. Had an engine light come on a little while back and it was a pre cat lamda sensor and then the maf (though swapping a maf a year back, admitedly to an aftermarket one, this took some finding).

I then had a bank1 timing sensor adjustment error left and so lumpy running and then noticed when at low speed there is a nasty chain like sound and popped it in to my mechanic friend.

He has just come back to me, saying that the sound is comming from the back end, it doesn't vary with revs and he thinks it is the Torque Convertor or Flexiplate ????

I never thought to look at the transmition for errors, was just checking the engine.

I know driving was sluggish like running on half an engine...

Any ideas what to do....what options are etc ???

Thanks,
Lee

Have you run a VAGCOM scan Lee?
It might give us some more pointers. . .

I have an old cheapie version which usualy does ok for diagnostics. Alas i was checking for Engine issues, never thought to check transmition log before....

I need to get my arse over to the mechanics and plug her up and see.

Am starting to wonder how much money its worth plumbing in.....The car is 2000 s8 with 171K on the clock. The interior lights are flakey at turning on, the windscreen wipers are irritating me. The body isn't exactly show room (though not bad either).....Does have prins LPG and i love my custom stereo (Kenwood highend flip out dvd, with ipod, usb, camera sat nav, bluetooth and hacked phatbox). Private plate too.

Silver with black alcanta seats (which i love), bi-xenon

Sans Prins and stereo and fully working £2-3k ???

If a gearbox fix is £2k......is it really worth it ???

Not the gearbox et al, but *another* cambelt tensioner.....However with it being at the back of the engine on the drivers side it sounded like it was gearbox !
