You can save 12Kg by under filling your tank by 12 litres and you can save even more weight if you like visiting forecourts

I wonder how much the car would have weighed had it been made by conventional steel rather then aluminium. The S8 has never been as quick as it should be. 400 BHP should have been the least for the D2 and 500 for the D3.
The new S8 is going to have a 4.0T V8 with 500ish BHP. About time we saw some turbos on an S8

I dont know, I kind of like it naturally aspired. the B6 S4 manual got to 60 in under 5 seconds (according to Motor Trend Mag), I bet if you converted the S8 to manual and dropped some kilos it could do it under 5 seconds. No need to mess with the engine.

Well the density of steel is 7.85 cm3 ish depending on the grade and aluminium is 2.7 cm3 so if you could find out the weight of the body just times that by 2.9 and you have your answer. So if it were 250kg’s it would be 725kg’s in steel.

I would imagine Ian would have a good idea of how heavy it is stripped to the bone.

Was hoping to see their 8 at ADI. In theory I should be able to make more meets this year as she passed her last MOT.

I managed a 7.2sec 0-60 plugged into VagCom (not bad for a big old girl) and I had the extra weight of the laptop in there too. But it’s the 70/80 to 130 that I think they are quick. Well it’ll hold it’s own with an Exige and there’s nothing to them.

Its probably faster than that, +/-1.94s is a huge margin of error.
Looking on the web 0-60 should be somewhere between 6.1 and 6.3 sec?
I really want to get a Performance box, its got a 10hz gps capability so should have a +/- 0.1s error.

Why the yen for turbo's?
Anyone can bolt one on and up the output. Its crude, and it works. But I like to think Audi were going for something better and technically far harder to achieve, because ultimately a naturally aspirated engine delivers its power way more predictably and smoothly, that's class.

And.... S8's were no slouch when they hit the scene, since when there's been a lot of time for others to play catch up.

Turbos because the possibility for getting more 'oomph' when required is much much easier. A simple remap gives 50 BHP and costs about £3/400. Try getting another 50 BHP out of a naturally aspirated car and see how much that costs. There are B5 S4s pushing out some serious 5/600 BHP in the UK which wouldn't have been possible without Turbos. Also Audi are all about turbo'd quick cars, the 5 pot quattro,RS 2 etc... 360 BHP was a decent amount of power I suppose when the D2 S8 came out. Each to their own but I much prefer the power delivery in a turbod car, oodles more torque too.
