Default Umbrella Holder Retrofit

Hi folks here is a quick how to on fitting the brolly holder to the toolbox in the boot.

So you will need

3 x Screws (N 91090701)
1 x Umbrella holder (4E0860264) list price is 14.68 inc vat

The unit is fitted by cutting the toolbox like in the following pictures and then drilling three holes for the screws to hold the part on.

In order to find where the holes need to be cut I put tape on the cover so I could mark where to drill one the big hole has been cut.

Start by cutting a small hole in the middle with a stanley knife approximately where the protruding part sits, once you have a hole big enough for you finger to get in you will feel a recess that the grip will sit into, continue trimming the hole out till you are at the edges of the recess and then you can place the grip in the hole and centre it.

Then trace round the grip with a pen so you have an outline, you can then transfer the measurements for the mounting holes or carefully peel of the masking tape and poke through the tape into the holes as i did then stick back onto the box for drilling of holes.

Once your holes are drilled, just have to refit and stand back and admire your handy work.

Any reason why you couldn't fit that to a D2?
Obviously, not in the exact same place as there's a warning triangle there, but above the inside handle looks OK.

And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

My very thought....... and up here you ALWAYS need an umbrella to hand!

It sits in the spare wheel well, the big empty space houses the removable towbar if you have one fitted.

Nice guide, thanks.

At the moment I've got an umbrella shoved through the two fabric loops that are attached to the two big plastic hooks that spring down from the top of the boot.

If anyone wants a 'tastefully' branded one, there are Audi umbrellas on aliexpress, it is an auto brolly in charcoal and has grey reflective Audi symbols (that's why they appear white in some photos due to flash). I bought a couple and put one in each rear door pocket.
