Wink A prediction!

I have a prediction for the next MJ thread on ‘what’s in the workshop today?’. It’ll be my S8!
Heading down early tomorrow and leaving the car with ‘The D2 Doctor’ to have the cam belt tensioners sorted and whatever additional issues that MJ might identify.
It’s a 4 hour trip, but, IMHO, well worth it to have the level of expertise and care that MJ brings to D2s.

Exciting. Having followed a number of MJ's previous efforts, you can justifiably have high expectations.

Sounds like a great job to get done hopefully not to many other issues!

What's in the workshop right now is Stephen's S8, which came in last week for timing belt, tensioners, and a few(!) other shenanigans. Unfortunately I've had flu all week so not had the energy to do a thread after full days in the workshop so I have a stack of pictures of it to make a thread later when I have more time. I might do them both in parallel to keep you all on your toes

Have a good trip Jim

How are you getting back? .... Train? plane? Or (a different) automobile?

I need to get mine down to the doctor's surgery some time soon ...

The chain tensioners/pads is one job that needs doing on my S8. I have no symptoms of wear -- not even the slightest startup rattle -- I would just like to get them replaced in plenty of time. What mileage should should they be replaced at?

Tensioner pads on Stephen's - we changed those as a precaution. Full tensioners on Jim's as they are rattling on cold start.

The pads should be done asap on all D2s now. My exploded FE engine went at 140K, Stephen's is at about that too. Unfortunately its quite a labour-intensive job since they are so deep in the engine so its consequently also quite expensive. Given my fanatical attention detail, I tend to find a bunch of other stuff to do while I'm in there too

MRC apparently do them without taking the timing belt off, but I find it easier to just pull the engine and do them on the engine stand along with a re-seal and possibly the plastic oil cooler pipe too.

Good stuff Jim, it's good to get it sorted.
I had just the pads changed on mine around 4 years ago but now one of the tensioner is rattling so I'll have to do those soon too.
Perhaps changing just the pads was a bit of a false policy.
